- Metropolis was first proposed in 1987, with three 30 story towers with a postmodern style. The project was approved on July 24, 1990, and was the largest development to hit downtown Los Angeles since 1982.
- The project never started construction and was later cancelled by 1991.
- In 2005 the project came back to life with a new design that had Two 30 Story Condominium Towers, a 42 Story Office building, and a 30 Story Hotel.
