Longyan City is located in the southwest of Fujian Province, commonly known as Minxi, adjacent to Guangdong and Jiangxi provinces. Except for Longyan and Zhangping, which use Minnan dialect, other areas use Minxi Hakka dialect. Longyan is one of the overseas Chinese areas in Fujian.
The main scenic spots in western Fujian include: Liancheng Guanzhi Mountain, a national scenic spot, Meihua Mountain, a national A-level nature reserve, Changting, a national historic city, the site of Gutian, a cultural relics protection unit of the State Council, the world's unique Yongding Earth Building, Xinluo Longkong Cave, Tingjiang Hakka Mother River and other tourist areas and scenic spots. Minxi is a famous revolutionary base in China. There are 610 revolutionary base villages and 23600 revolutionary martyrs in the city, accounting for more than half of the total number of martyrs in the province. Between 1955 and 1965, 68 generals from western Fujian were appointed, accounting for 82% of the total number of generals from Fujian Province, including 2 generals, 7 lieutenant generals, and 59 brigadiers general. The people of western Fujian have made tremendous sacrifices and contributions to the victory of the Chinese revolution. The long-term revolutionary struggle has cultivated the excellent style of hard work and plain living of the people in western Fujian, as well as the revolutionary spirit of perseverance and courage to contribute.
