Tieling, also known as Liaobei, is a prefecture level city in Liaoning Province and a national sports training base. Located in the northern part of Liaoning Province, in the middle of the Songliao Plain, it is adjacent to Shenyang and Fushun in the south, Siping City in Jilin Province in the north, Qingyuan Manchu Autonomous County in Fushun City and Liaoyuan City in Jilin Province in the east, and Faku County and Kangping County in Shenyang City, as well as Keerqin Left Banner and Tongliao City in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in the west. By the end of 2022, the city's total population (registered residence population) will reach 2.805 million people. According to the official website in November 2023, the total area is 13000 square kilometers, with 2 municipal districts, 3 counties, and 2 county-level cities under its jurisdiction. It is known as the "City of Energy", "Hometown of Quyi and Small Pieces", and "Hometown of Errenzhuan".
Tieling is located to the east of the Hada Ridge in the Changbai Mountains, and to the west of the Liaohe River. The terrain is high in the east, low in the north, low in the south, and slightly higher in the west, with various landforms such as mountains, plains, hills, and rivers. It belongs to the temperate continental monsoon climate and is a major grain producing area and important commodity grain production base in China. According to the official website in November 2023, there are 36 types of mineral deposits in China, including cash, silver, aluminum, zinc, and iron, of which 23 types have been developed and utilized. The regional gross domestic product (GDP) for the whole year of 2022 is 75.42 billion yuan.
As of the end of 2022, there are 2678 health institutions of various types in Tieling City, including 79 county-level hospitals and 104 health centers.
As early as the Neolithic Age 7000 years ago, there were human activities in Tieling; During the Eastern Han, Three Kingdoms, and Western Jin dynasties, the southern part of the territory belonged to Xuantu Commandery. In the first year of Kaiyuan reign of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang Dynasty (713), the Bohai clan of Tang Dynasty took Yuexi and changed it to Fuzhou, which is now Tieling City. In 917, Emperor Taizu of Liao refined silver here, so Fuzhou was renamed Yinzhou. In the third year of the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1664), Wei was abolished and a county was established. In 1932, after the establishment of the puppet state of Manchukuo, Liaoning Province was renamed Fengtian Province, and Tieling was under the jurisdiction of Fengtian Province. On January 5, 1959, the Tieling Special Zone was abolished. In January 1980, Tieling City (county-level) was established.
