Is there something special about that building in front of it that they weren’t able to buy it out?

Because the building is landmarked. The other lot next to it is also supposed to get a new building.

upgraded landscaping, paving, lighting and public art," Cushman said in a

They're huge...130,000 employees with nearly $17B in revenue last year. More than CH Robinson, Netflix, Texas Instruments, General Mills, CDW, etc etc. They own companies like Ogilvy, Mindshare, and Group M. The Gr333n location is a consolidation of all of their Chicago offices which were spread around previously.

RIP English. It was a bar for the longest time. I'm glad they kept it there. Keep the character of that block.

English was one of the first bars I went to when I moved to Chicago many years ago. I remember being impressed that it was three floors. RIP indeed!

Anyone know if there's a Chicago development map? I know a few other cities have very robust ones that are updated all the time.

Check out the Curbed Chicago maps of west loop and high rise construction. The site has only been down since April so they aren't terribly out of date.
