Empty NYC -- Brooklyn, April 2020

Of course what constitutes "empty" for NYC is still somewhat bustling for a lot of other American cities, but that's how it goes here.

So I live in the northern Brooklyn neighborhood of Bushwick, and am a block and a half from the border with the Queens neighborhood of Ridgewood. So these shots are about 50/50 between Brooklyn and Queens, although since I live in Brooklyn and have never actually looked for an apartment in Queens I think of this whole area as "Brooklyn"

Anyway, a few days ago they started closing down parks, starting with the playgrounds and then just today they announced they were shuttering the dog parks as well. But the weather today was absolutely perfect at 65 and plentiful sunshine, so the park spaces that were open and of course the regular old streets saw perhaps a little more pedestrian volume than they have been.

Otherwise, what you see here is what life has been looking like out in the less photogenic parts of this city for the last few weeks -- people still out and about, but probably around 70% less than normal.

CAT IN THE PARK. I REPEAT: THERE'S A CAT IN THE PARK

Oh Kay.

I miss you, Manhattan

Ford Taurus, anyone?

Hope everyone is staying safe and being smart!

Great photos! Many more people out then on central Manhattan (have looked on webcams of Times Square for example). I suppose that is the case in many partly locked down cities, people go out more in residential areas to shop for food and stay away from downtown.

Nice pictures! I like seeing these threads of what each place has been doing. I've been taking pictures here and there around Delaware of what the pandemic has looked like.

Unfortunately, that's why there have been so many cases there.

Great to see an area outside of the typical NYC scenes we often get from Manhattan (don't get me wrong, I love seeing Manhattan but I also enjoy seeing the other boroughs).
