Can't wait for the Republic and waterline to top out, then Austin will have a seriously impressive skyline. It's already getting there density wise. Hopefully some new projects start soon

The very little they show of the Parking Screening is truly third rate!!! Metal with holes in it is what it looks like it will be. So disappointing. This is the Human Scale/Street View the public is going to get the displeasure of seeing all the time. Yuck, Yuck, Yuck!

funny how their brochure proves one point:
They market the small warehouse businesses that are being mowed under.
That they mowed under.
Makes no sense.
Guess there is an appeal after all. Sad so many developers are short sighted.

Reminds me of Will Ferrell in Wedding Crashers.

Shame that drive through bank was brutally demolished. Old Austin is dead!

Not sure what warehouse they mowed over. They demolished an outdated BBVA bank that had too prime of a lot to have surface parking on half of it.

There was a sushi restaurant next to the drive through bank that was also demolished. But it was hardly iconic.

Another 3rd and Shoal -type disaster. Maybe even worse. Shameful.

Seriously. Generally agree with the point OP is making, but a bank drive thru is not a small town, local spot. Housing > drive thru bank.

Also, that sushi restaurant (Maiko) found a new location by the convention center. It definitely did not get put out of business and was even able to stay downtown.

I think maybe MichaelB is talking more about banal street level downgrades...which he is 100% right about.

I used to be all rah rah rah housing, but this city needs to figure out how to have design standards first. I'd rather have a liminal drive through bank tbh lol.

I guess there is always a possibility the facade can be changed later, but still very disappointing we will have a big gray wall facing such an important intersection and so close to one of our most important public spaces in the city (republic square)
