How does Charlotte compare

I know that Atlanta is booming and I'm not interested in hearing more about it (not meant to be rude but I am well aware) but I am curious as to how other southern cities construction situation compares with Charlotte's. The following are buildings that are actually in the process of being built. Anotherwords, the groundbreaking has occured or construction is well in the process. In addition to the buildings listed, there are over 10 highrises that are not listed as they are slated for opening in the next several months.

- 210 Trade- 50 stories
- Wychovia Corp office- 48 floors
- Wychovia Condos- 42 floors
- The Avenue- 36 floors
- The Trademark- 28 floors
- Ritz Carlton- 32 floors
- The Park condos- 28 floors
- Starwood Boutique Hotel- 17 floors
- NASCAR corp/museum- 16 floors

I would like to be a contributor to urban planet, but a couple of years ago, I responded to a racist comment with a like comment and was banned. I would like to be reinstated. What I said really wasn't racist. I suppose I should have been the adult. Funny, the other guy was allowed to remain? Oh well, at least I can still read postings.

Downtown Jacksonville

New Construction:

- The Peninsula - 36 stories
- The Strand - 28 stories
- Berkman II - 23 stories
- San Marco Place - 21 stories
- Everbank Plaza - 13 stories

**The St. John (51), The Shipyards (38) and Riverwatch (36) are permitted, deep into sales and expected to rise soon, but as of today, no dirt has been turned over on their sites.

Historic Adaptive reuse of 1920s era buildings:

- The Barnett (112 Lofts) - 18 stories
- Florida Life Building (Laura Trio) - 11 stories
- Bisbee Building (Laura Trio) - 10 stories

I know this is a "skyscraper forum" so most here get excited about new shiny towers, but imo, the most exciting development occuring in Jacksonville is happening in a large urban and highly walkable neighborhood just north of downtown called Springfield. There are no tall towers rising, instead growth is in the form of 3 story infill projects, adaptive reuse of historic warehouses, victorian homes, apartments and the revitalization of a large scale urban park system connecting the district, with downtown to the South.

I can't keep up with Miami's but, I'll fill everyone in on Tampa's and Orlando's U/C list later on.

Just a quick Q about Jax -- what happened to the 70 story tower?

Charlotte is a great city, and I wish there was more representation on here..I just don't think any of the good Charlotte forumers are interested in coming back to SSP.

Anyway, Charlotte is booming out of control right now, and there isnt another city in the same size group with the amount of projects and construction Charlotte has right now. The skyline is expected to double in the next 5 years. If you want to know more about the projects and construction going on in Charlotte, try Urbanplanet or even Skyscrapercity.

I'm really excited about the two 50+ story condos and the 800 ft wachovia tower going up right now. There are plenty of other notable projects going up or proposed..Its out of control.

There are others out there that are just as impressive. Off the top of my head, Austin, Orlando and Tampa are three that come to mind. Fort Lauderdale is pretty impressive too, but it is located in the Metro Miami area.

Anyway, here's downtown Orlando:

- The Vue - 35 floors
- Dynetech Tower - 32 floors
- 55 West - 32 floors
- Solaire - 30 floors
- Star Tower - 18 floors
- Premiere Trade South Tower - 17 floors
- Paramount - 16 floors
- Eola Place - 16 floors
- Florida Hospital - 15 stories
- Premiere Trade North Tower - 13 floors
- 101 Eola - 13 floors

**The metro list is MUCH larger, but I limited to only downtown. If there are any Orlando forumers out there, feel free to add, if I'm missing a project or two.

That's kind of a cop out... What major city in Florida isn't going through a high-rise boom? (rhetorical)

Cop out? He was just listing other cities with just as impressive construction list. Austin isn't in Florida. When did we start hating on cities that are booming in Florida?

OT: I might have to move from Tuscaloosa within the next year, and Jacksonville is one of the possibilities that interests me. What is the University of North Florida and surrounding area like ?

University of North Florida's campus is located in the heart of the Southside. If you like strip malls, big box stores, cookie cutter condos & apartments and traffic gridlock, the Southside can compete with just about anyone. Nevertheless, the good thing about that area is it's centrally located between the city's major urban areas...downtown/core neighborhoods and the beaches.

#1 Who said Austin was in Florida?
#2 Who said that I was hating on cities from Florida? Hell, I love Florida..
I just made a comment... I didn't mean for anyone to take offense to it.
You could've taken that comment I made for the best or for the worst.

I don't know what the big deal is, but I didn't intend to "cop out" any Florida city. I only listed a few Southern cities that I knew off hand have just as much going up and coming down the pipeline as Charlotte. That's all.

As for Fort Lauderdale, I mentioned it, because many outside of the state tend to overlook it because of it's larger neighbor just to the South.
