It already is quite nice. Beechwood is more bikeable than Richmond Rd as well. More density and shops/services should make it even better.

It is more bikeable but the network is still really patchy; certain parts are risen/separated, others are not; some parts also have a lot of weird twists and turns around cars. They should have really gotten rid of street parking and instead fully insert a risen east-west bike path from Vanier Parkway to St Laurent, plus wider sidewalks to accommodate all the new residences.

The bones are there, Ottawa just needs to add more ligaments, which could enhance connectivity.

I am extremely excited to see what will undoubtedly be yet another project of very high quality from Minto. I am adoring the traditional main street/quality midrise vibe of New Edinburgh lately.

The project is in Vanier, not New Edinburgh.

Edit: I am being sarcastic. While neighbourhood boundaries might call this Vanier, nobody in the development community or the neighbourhood considers this Vanier. All of Beechwood between the Rideau River and the Beechwood Cemetary is considered New Edinburgh.

The south side of Beechwood is known as New Edinburgh? I can't speak for the development community, or the more distant and perhaps less informed parts of the city, but I can speak as somebody who grew up not far from here, and that's a wild and presumptuous view of New Edinburghers to try to claim an entire street that they only occupy about 15% of.

It's only New Edinburgh on the north side from Crichton to Springfield (the shortest segment of all). Then it's Lindenlea from Springfield to Acacia. Then Rockcliffe from Acacia to Birch. And of course the south side of that entire distance is Vanier.

In recent decades, the monikers Beechwood South and Beechwood Village were being used by the real estate community to give a non-Vanier impression of the area. But New Edinburgh it never was. I like to think of this meeting place of four distinct neighbourhoods as just Beechwood.

I just call it Beechwood, but I never felt like it was in Vanier either. Its New Edinburgh's main street and Montreal Road is Vaniers's main street

Crazy that people would be so afraid to be associated with the poors that they would create a new neighbourhood name for a strip of land between two streets.

Having said this controversial thing, above, I will admit that Beechwood to me doesn't feel like Vanier, until I've crossed the Barette Border into Vanier proper.

To me, it's Beachwood Village, a community that was once part of three different cities.

Back in the 1980's New Edinburgh was the "Westboro" of its time. It stretched as far as anyone's desire to associate with it.

Really hoping that developers keep picking up lots on Beechwood's and the area continues to density. I like the look of some of the older buildings on the street, but most are fairly unremarkable and underutilized. This one is for sure going to be a game changer and add more activity to the street

Late to this, but this passage is incredible.
