The south side of Beechwood is known as New Edinburgh? I can't speak for the development community, or the more distant and perhaps less informed parts of the city, but I can speak as somebody who grew up not far from here, and that's a wild and presumptuous view of New Edinburghers to try to claim an entire street that they only occupy about 15% of.
It's only
New Edinburgh on the north side from Crichton to Springfield (the shortest segment of all). Then it's
Lindenlea from Springfield to Acacia. Then
Rockcliffe from Acacia to Birch. And of course the south side of that entire distance is
Vanier.
In recent decades, the monikers Beechwood South and Beechwood Village were being used by the real estate community to give a non-Vanier impression of the area. But New Edinburgh it never was. I like to think of this meeting place of four distinct neighbourhoods as just Beechwood.
