I wish they would have included the gas station in the proposal and built along Montreal Road with retail frontage. That plaza would have worked better placed on the corner of Montreal and the Vanier Parkway.

I appreciate the shapes of the buildings and this proposal not being like every other in the city, although I'm sure most of the landscaping and design features will all get cut. It also seems to be a bit too "high end" for that part of town, it's not as north as other condos being built around New Edinburgh, very close to "Chateau Vanier Towers" so not sure how high of a selling price (or rental rate) this area can command...

OTSkyline, don't you think this is just the latest in the series of 'high end' real estate marching it's way east down Rideau Street? Seems like the entire eastern end of Rideau is under construction, and now others want in on the action. It's SO close to downtown that funcionnaires will almost surely go for it. Plus its not at western Rideau, which has gotten decidedly more sketchy over the last 5 years. I have friends who had to move away because their dog kept 'finding (read: eating)' human sh*ts on their walks around their bougie Cumberland condo.

I thought Chateau Vanier's reputation has improved by virtue of past resident Ryan Reynolds?

If they put up a historic plaque, maybe Watson would set food in Vanier for the unveiling.

No. The Tweet itself only had a (broken) link to the dev. app.

The more I look at this proposal is the more I don't like it. Doesn't interact well with the surrounding area, including Montreal Road and Vanier Parkway.

Are these buildings designed by the same architect as the slightly curving, very empty, 'if we build it, they will come' new-ish building to the south on the parkway? I just realized they're very similar.

There's not much to interact with, is there?

Canadian Centre for Cyber Security (unit under CSE) occupies 6 of 10 floors of that building now

I'm all for it. Radical architecture that 'doesn't interact well with the surrounding area' works well in Vanier as you can with the Wabano Centre and even the 90's vintage red brick post modern Desjardins bank building with references to Parliament on it's roofline. Vanier doesn't have a coherent style of any kind so I think anything can set a trend here without bringing down the neighbourhood...I mean how could you bring it down any further? I think the whole of Montreal Road will need to be revamped in the next 20-30 years so funky new projects like this are a good start.

Good street interaction has to start somewhere. If we use "not much to interact with" as an excuse to not build better streetscapes than the incumbent ones, we'll never get better ones.

I had the same thought.

I agree, they should have improved the street interaction with Montreal Road. Overall though, it's not a terrible project.

Looks like an attractive project at first glance of the design summary.
