Got an email from the azure team, leasing opportunities will start spring 2024, one of they’re selling points is I quote “20 stories of undulating European imported glass fins” the architecture of this building is by BDP. Their building on lakeshore east in Toronto was nominated for an award at the international architecture festival. IMO this building will be up there with relève and soho italia. Looking forward for the 40 story building next door to be built to give more depth in the western skyline.

Out of interest, do you sign up for all the projects to get notifications from the renters, or were you thinking of moving here?

If the latter, I never thought of doing that and it is an excellent idea to keep informed about what the plans are!

new renders on their website

The podium masonry was simplified unfortunately, but overall still a nice project.

Compared to the renders on p.1 too, the fins seem to have disappeared or been vastly reduced in depth and density.

Who keeps accepting and approving this garbage? Go to Montreal and amazed at its transformation. Toronto is bonkers for what they get. Ottawa really is a pile of hot poop

Ok let’s relax. Toronto has some of the most terribly bland architecture. If you’re going to use a city as an example to whine about, Toronto ain’t it. Modern Montreal isn’t exactly the chefs kiss either.

It's all relative. Toronto and Montreal compared to Ottawa are Van Gogh and Monet compared to George Bush Jr.

WTF! It's like some kind of massive conspiracy to make everyone in Ottawa depressed by surrounding us in shite developments made from cheap ass materials and unaffordable to the average citizen.....

You're not alone. I just spent a couple of days in Halifax for the first time in a few years. What a contrast in how these two cities have progressed real estate-wise in the last 10 years. It's mind boggling. Halifax is also a good reminder of the wasted waterfront opportunities in Ottawa the last several decades.

If this is what they had proposed kin the first place, I would have thought it was decent for Ottawa. But they had to start with a much nicer design, with more height, cut it down a bit, get it approved, and then dumb it down some more. This may not be the end of it.

We see this constantly in Ottawa. 1960 Scott, Story of Rideau, 359 Kent, Zibi (mostly Gatineau side, but a bit Ottawa as well). Just propose what you're going to build. Don't get our hopes up.

I don't understand how this happens. When they dumb it down, does that also have to be approved? Is there no agreement that the building is constructed as is when it's initially approved? How can so many buildings in the city be approved, then they build something completely unrelated? (Though this case isn't as egregious as others)

Is this something only Ottawa allows to happen, and if someone tried to pull this in Toronto or Vancouver would anything happen? Or is this super common?

How is this not false advertisement? I'm not part of the industry so I have legit zero idea how it all works.

That's the site for this development. Maybe they're just parking their own sign there for a while?
