Canada Place (and BC Place) are vital Olympic venues, it's not like I'm asking about a non-Olympic venue.

a couple points;
1. the roof reno is being done using federal stimulus money. this wasn't around a year ago so it's not like they could have planned for it. that money was a direct result of the recent recession. now that its available, great, but a bit too late in the game to have it complete pre-olympics.
2. the new roof is going to look exactly the same as the old one so... what's the rush and really, who cares. it looks the same.
3. canada place is
the only convention centre in the world to win 2 "world's best convention centre" from the AIPC (2002 & 2008). so even as it stands now, it's considered one of the world's best. i think we'll be ok for our "finest hour".
