Killarney Community Centre Expansion | Completed

Quote:

Killarney Ice Rink will be CLOSING for redevelopment as an Olympic Legacy Facility as of March 2007.

For the latest updates on the redevelopment project, please visit the Vancouver Park Board Planning website

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Killarney Ice Rink & Community Centre Lobby Renewal The proposed development will replace the existing ice rink and lobby with a new ice rink and lobby, maintaining a building use identical to the existing use. The proposed ice rink would essentially be constructed in the location of the existing ice rink.
The height of the proposed ice rink is similar to the height of the existing pool facility, or approximately 2.6 m (approx. 8 feet ) higher than the existing ice rink.
The area of the new rink and lobby is 3,713 m 2 ( approx. 40,000 sq. ft.) which represents a net increase in area of 745 m 2 ( approx. 8,000 sq. ft.) to accommodate the larger international-size ice surface and improved change rooms.
This development will provide 33 additional parking spaces, plus 7 additional passenger drop-off spaces . The west edge of the existing west parking lot would be expanded to provide some of these new parking spaces. New parking spaces and passenger drop-off spaces would also be provided between the existing west parking lot and the proposed ice rink. The existing east parking lot would be reconfigured.
De-construction is now underway with the expected construction of the new ice rink be completed on or before the end of August 2008. Our goal is to provide full ice rink activities at Killarney for the winter of 2008.
The ice rink will initially accommodate an international-sized ice sheet with 250 spectator seats and will be used as a practice facility for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
Following the Olympics, the ice surface will be converted to a narrower NHL-sized configuration. The spectator seating will be reconfigured and the capacity of 250 seats will be retained. The conversion to Legacy mode will affect only the size of the ice surface, the dasher board layout, and the surrounding floor area of the rink. The remainder of the facility will remain unchanged by the conversion.
