not condos rentals thats the plan - the coast is moving and not operating a hotel at that location

thats the big problem the union is upset as apparently a lot of the employees who are unionized are being laid off let go and the staff at the new location will not be unionized and new hirees

there is a planned rally coming up to support them sometime i think in march

That is kind of sleazy.

Why not simply transplant the current staff to the new site and hire temporary staff for the old site for the short period while both are open.

to break the union

thats what starbucks does or did - the few union locations - the one on denman was union and was shut down with all staff let go - than they opened one at denman and davie... non union

common practice to break a union - like that walmart in quebec they shut down instead of deal with the union

Stopped in to the Coast's new restaurant, Preston's, for lunch yesterday...

It was pretty good, decent prices. Lunch items approx. $13, wine bottles starting at $29... A nice addition to the immediate area.

A couple pics for ya:

Crazy Cypress 'social' table they have, probably 20 feet long:

Funky glass art wall:

I didn't take any pics of the food, but it tasted pretty good and was well plated.

It wasn't trying to be a DB Bistro or anything, but was good for what it is.

Lunch items were pretty much all $13 I believe and included gourmet-ish sandwiches, burgers, etc. and I enjoyed a good Pad-Thai.

They also serve a pretty reasonably priced breakfast and dinner.

I walked by this place Thursday night. I was surprised it was open already. It was reasonably busy and looked great at night with that funky glass art wall lit up inside.
