I have noticed that from some angles, the Woodwards Building u/c will look much more like the original NYC Flatiron than this one will, so the name is not completely appropriate.

It's kind of an interesting steel frame they've put up on the roof, I wonder how it fits in...it doesn't look anything like the rendering of the mechanical.

There were a couple of variations - one had a canopy on the roof (I think it may have been opposed by area residents for blocking the view, resulting in a more modest proposal - but following a court case, I think the old design was reinstated)

^^ Thanks.
The last time I walked around that area (circa 2002), there was a crappy 1 story commercial building there and a parking lot at the other place nearby under construction (I think?).

Just a thought: wouldn't it be amazing if they placed a mural on the concrete side of the building? But maybe it would be quicky covered up like what happened to the house at Georgia & Chilco by Lost Lagoon.

Thanks for the pics raggedy. Flatiron really looks odd, especially from it's backside.

That rounded edge on the canopy bears no relation to the sharp edges of the balconies.

The crane is coming down now.

I'm a little disappointed by the final product.

End-on it looks OK - it's when you see two sides at the same time that there's a disconnect.

I like the concept of the roof design, but it looks like a diving-board which is disjointed from the rest the building style.

That's a vast understatement.

This tower is an abomination.

Flatiron from Stanley Park | April 10th, 2008

My photo, taken April 10th, 2008.

Obviously the focus of the shot was the Shangri-La but both Flatiron and The Ritz are rather prominent.
