I really wish people would stop with this fallacious comparison of grocery stores and restaurants. People don't linger in grocery stores in clusters without masks on. There is a world of difference. Even that aside, it is far more important for a grocery store to be open than a restaurant. Groceries are an essential item, while eating at/from a restaurant is a luxury for most.

Exactly as much as people hate on big box stores I mean a lot of people use them to buy essential supplies. If being a mega corporation is the yardstick then close down all the gas stations.

Apparently the penalty for violating the suspension would be 5 years without a business license. as per

The City can't even spell 'licence' (the Canadian noun) correctly.
Ugh.

US - noun and verb with an 's'
Canadian/British - noun with a 'c'; verb with an 's'

Check your Driver's Licence.

Governments should be suspending collection of property taxes and other taxes for business that cannot provide takeout (ie. hot pot).

I still think this was a reactionary move aimed and quelling fears and restaurants were used as a scapegoat. There were no alternate measures proposed by the government. Transmission continues to happen, and this is likely happening in the schools and workplaces.

I think that's been up for almost a year. I guess they're in no hurry to open with restrictions etc.

Signs for Mary Brown's just went up in Suter Brook in Port Moody at the former frozen yogurt place. Sure seems like they're doing a push.

they seem popular in Surrey, they have a couple out there. I had em once here, it was ok, had it a few times in Alberta.

The old Tim Hortons/Wendys combo on Alberni, the Wendy's part is still not used, I noticed some other locations changed the Wendy's to Burger Kings since they are the same co. Maybe they could do that on Alberni.

Yesterday the English Bay Cactus Club was closed, despite having a patio, there were no signs of life on an amazing day.

From what I gather Cactus Club is having money issues. Richard Jaffray and the Fullers are still battling it out in Appeals after the Fullers won the initial case on Cactus Clubs finances in 2019.

There are a lot of restaurants being closed these days. The list shows at least three Cactus Club locations.

The BC government said if there are more than 3 employees with a positive result they will shut the site down.

One of our suppliers has been shut down for 10 days cause of that new rule. They make potato things and not sure what else.

Nene Chicken from South Korea is opening it's first Canadian and North American location in Vancouver April 21. I remember seeing them in Australia and thinking they would do well here, but the ones I saw in Australia had much nicer more upscale locations than their choice of opening on Kingsway but better than not.

The old Starbucks at 14th and Main has been leased, but no indication of who is moving in. It’s a large space, so maybe a chain of some sort.

Meanwhile, Covid cases and hospitalizations are dropping, and we are at over 40% of the population immunized, yet the BC government still has restaurants (patios only) shutting down at 10 pm. Patios are very safe places from transmission, given the spacing and outdoor environment. They should have extended the patio hours at least a couple weeks ago.
