SINGAPORE | 8 Shenton Way | 1,000 FT | 63 FLOORS

Forgive me if a thread exists for this already, but I wasnt able to find one.

This will be a new tallest for Singapore, as well as its first supertall

The skyscraper which currently occupies the site, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AXA_Tower, is undergoing demolition, and now holds the record for tallest building ever demolished by its owner, as it is slightly taller than the previous record holder, 270 Park Ave:

Wow, that is a pretty large demo. So is this one definitely moving forward due to the demo? I love the base and the design about halfway up, but feel like it needs one more setback on the sides about halfway up the top 'slab' to make this design work overall. But love that they've done with materials and massing halfway up.

the new tower is already under construction. The old tower and its foundations have already been demolished. 2 Tower cranes and new foundation equipment are on site.

That's quite an ugly building, let alone one that will serve as the new tallest for the city. I preferred what was there before.

Wow, I didn’t realize the AXA Tower had come down. I liked its simplicity. It was designed by Hugh Stubbins, the same guy who did the Federal Reserve in Boston and whatever the tallest building in Indianapolis is called now.

I actually like the AXA Tower more than the new tower.

Yeah, I had no idea it had been demolished.

I think it was the 6th tallest building in the world outside of North America when it completed in 1986.

Kinda crazy that it was demolished. Does anyone know if there were any specific issues with the building (fire, structural, etc.) that caused it to come down? or was it merely "in the way"?

Oh wow, he also designed Citigroup Center in NY and the original Veterans Stadium in Philly. Quite the accomplished architect.

Wow! I understand the needs of tenants (like outdoor space) is different than in the 80s when AXA Tower went up, but, this is quite the let down.

Curiously, the Fuji Xerox Tower (541ft) in the same neighborhood (which I also liked very much) was also torn down last year.

Citigroup! For the life of me I couldn't remember that last night. Landmark Tower in Yokohama as well. Stubbins did some great work.

Yes, it is fully demolished. There are flickr photos on skyscrapercity but the author has disabled sharing.
