Very bad year for Winnipeg.

Toronto is at 58 or 60, depending on a case. Not too bad of a year for Toronto, may end up below 70 which is pretty decent. I consider 80+ a bad year for Toronto.

Shootings are still on the rise though, people are getting shot everyday and all over the city.

Pretty damn sad a 14 year old girl lost her life that way.

Very bad weekend in Winnipeg.

On top of those 3 killings last night, Sunday afternoon headline:

Baby among 4 shot at Flora Avenue home in 'shotgun attack': Winnipeg police

Hopefully they pull through, especially the child

Elmwood female was a friend of mine, becomes really real when you know the victim and it's not just another stat.

Montreal is now at 16 after a shooting in Montréal-Nord a few days ago. Gang-related probably.

A bit of a flurry in Montreal lately, though the overall total is still very low.

Shootings are still high in Ottawa as well, though the number of murders is relatively stable.

There have been 60 shootings in Ottawa so far, and with just over two months to go the city should end up with about the same or slightly more shootings than in 2018 where there were close to 80.

The CBC report on this issue puts the emphasis on the instability/fluidity of Ottawa gang culture in recent years. I suspect that they've got it right.

Probably about to hit 38 now, the 3 year old who was stabbed in his sleep by his mother's drunken raging ex is coming off life support

This was an absolute new low for murders in this city, and that is saying something.

There may have been another in Ottawa last night at the Shepherds of Good Hope homeless shelter in Lower Town.

I believe that makes 11 or 12 for the year.

I believe Edmonton is holding at 19. Last couple of bodies found were drug related or natural causes.

As horrible as it is, it may just be an isolated case.

Murders in general are too high in Winnipeg, but it's not like little kids are getting killed left and right. At least not AFAIK.

Generally, no. But the last week was crazy. 14 year old killed at a Hallowe'en party, infant one of four people shot inside a home by someone on the sidewalk (thankfully that child survived), and now a 3 year old killed.

People are unnerved by all of this, you can hear it on the radio shows and in the general chatter.
