A co-worker commented on how the plaza has no benches for seating.

PS - in the plans, that planter behind the ledge was to have trees.

Pics by me today:

Did anyone catch this ridiculous article by Frances Bula praising this monstrosity as "minimalist" architecture? James Cheng is quoted, too; he explains his reasoning behind the horrendous design.

Yeah, thought it was total "spin".
I see that the on-line article has been edited to remove the reference in the printed version that the renovation replicated the proportions of the 4ft wide panels of the Cesar Pelli cladding (which it does not). She obviously has not inspected the building herself.

So any word on when Nordstrom takes control of the space for stocking and training?

There are already retail fixtures in the store, it looks like stocking should be imminent. Although there is still much finishing work to be done. Dead line is fast approaching!

They also put wraps on the windows - so they probably have possession(?):

Overall, are Vancouverites excited for, or indifferent to, Nordstrom to open?

Thanks!
Quite subtle in colour, isn't it?

Also, I wonder if the projecting entrance vestibule blocks the sign from view directly in front of the entrance?

Yes it does. I wanted to get a pic from directly below looking up at the sign and this was as close as I could get and still see the sign over the ledge (see pic below).

Also, I presume the NORDSTROM letters will glow from behind as there seem to be lights in the pic you posted.

When is Microsoft moving in? Sony Imageworks has already been in for a month, but I don't think MSFT has moved in yet. I wonder why?

They were also supposed to have several signs on the building.

Waiting for their existing lease to expire I think.

The squiggly bits in my pic look like LED lights in the sign.

At least what was there before was more consistent and coherent. It actually looked like a building, not a pile of leftover construction material that the architect decided to glue together.

True, it was more consistent. It was like some large bathroom fixture, complete with green slime mold and everything. It was more like a heavy-industry fixture than a d/t building.

Ha. Ok that was pretty funny!

I agree it could look a lot less cluttered that's for sure. Although I like it better than those blank dingy white walls from before
