The Draw at Sugar House -

Tunnel to connect Sugar House Park, Hidden Hollow beneath 1300 East

By Richard Piatt and Jared Page, Deseret News

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/7...1300-East.html

SALT LAKE CITY — Pedestrians and cyclists in the near future will
be able to access Sugar House Park without having to dodge cars on
1300 East.

Construction is under way on The Draw at Sugar House — an
underground pedestrian crossing connecting Sugar House Park with
Hidden Hollow and the Sugar House business district.

The tunnel will run under 1300 East, providing safe access to the park
and a critical connection in the Parleys Creek Corridor Trail that will link
the Bonneville Shoreline Trail on the east with the Jordan River Parkway
Trail on the west...

Nuskin's $80 Million Investment In Downtown Provo

Mayor John Curtis,

The City Council gave a green light (with a unanimous vote)
to Nu Skin's downtown addition.

A little over a year ago, Nu Skin approached the City regarding the
feasibility of the expanding the Nu Skin campus in downtown Provo.
Nu Skin will be expanding its existing Tower and then go west across
100 West where it will construct a new modern facility.

The proposed $80,000,000 expansion project will add 147,000 square feet
for a total of nearly 300,000 square feet and will house about 900
employees.

The word modern doesn't really do justice to the planned expansion.
If I could come up with a word that combined cool, fabulous and
visionary I would be better able to explain the new project. Better
yet, I'll let the pictures tell the story.

Recent Nu Skin demolition work in Provo expansion

Nu Skin International marked the beginning Tuesday of the demolition
of properties next to its downtown Provo high-rise office to make way
for construction of the Nu Skin Innovation Center. The center will house
a research and development laboratory, a network operations
center, distributor recognition areas, retail space and a cafe. The
network marketer of skin care and other personal products is investing
$80 million in downtown Provo in an expansion that will include more than
an acre of green space.[/I][/B]

(Photo by Chris Detrick | The Salt Lake Tribune) Spectators watch as properties neighboring the Nu Skin High Rise
are demolished Wednesday May 4, 2011. The Nu Skin Innovation
Center will house world-class research and development laboratory,
network operations center, distributor recognition areas, retail space
and a café. Nu Skin is investing $80 million in downtown Provo with
this expansion project that will include more than one acre of green
space for employees, residents and visitors to enjoy.

Demolition makes way for Nu Skin center

Bu Genelle Pugmire

http://www.heraldextra.com/news/loca...d7d514b57.html

Hundreds of Nu Skin employees and area residents looked
on Wednesday as Nu Skin founders Blake Roney, Sandie Tillotson
and Steve Lund took their turn at helping demolish the old Kress
building.

The event marks the end of an era on Center Street, according to
Mayor John Curtis, and signals the beginning of a new era in Provo
history.

"This is a big deal for us," Curtis said at the demolition. "I have mixed
feelings today, but any good city builds new landmarks. All of us
appreciated the landmark that was here. But this is an important
part of revitalizing downtown. It facilitates the things people have
been asking for in downtown."...

Farrer Junior High-

I thought they were just building a huge addition, but it looks like they
built an entire new school on the south lawn of the original campus and
are now tearing the older buildings down. Does any one know for sure?
It makes sense since you can know longer see the old building anyway
as it is blocked by the new building.

This is sad to me as the older building was beautiful (at least the main
part- not the later additions) and I thought it would be something
historic.

Front of new school- I like it- IMO they used a better color scheme
and material quality than the new Timpanogos elementary they built
a few years ago next to my house.

2. Mockup. Looks like copper is becoming a trend.

6. Holladay village center project (sporadically progressing). The roadblocks are actually blocking a future plaza, not a road.

^The pavers in these crosswalks have had to be replaced 2-3 times already. They keep failing.

7. I think the concrete thing is going to be a fountain. The frozen
yogurt shop in the background, as well as a game store next door,
opened this month.

8. The pavers have been sitting on those palettes for a while now.

9. Burton Lumber celebrated its 100th year in Holladay this year.

14. Gepetto's Pizza is a local favorite. They usually have live music on
the weekends, so don't go on a weekend ;D

15.

16. Boulevard restaurant is one of the best in Utah, supposedly. I've
never been, but reviews are great. I think it closed a while ago
during construction, but it looks like it's open now. I think there's a
dance studio on the top floor of this building. The striped awnings on
the left are for Top It, another frozen yogurt place.

17. I don't know how Relics frame shop has managed to stay in business
for so many years, but it has. What used to be Holladay Pharmacy in
the distance is now a full-blown Wallgreens. They replaced the signs
last week, after Walgreens purchased the store a few years ago.

18. Coin shop and Al Rounds gallery. Some of these places are probably
just run by rich people with nothing else to do.

19. "The Store Too," a nice little grocery store, and the 2nd location of
"The Store," also in Holladay. They always have good meats and enchiladas ready to eat.

23. The new Oakwood Elementary on Highland Drive. I wanted to get
some pre-demo pics. Oops, too late.

24.

27. Cafe Madrid on Highland Drive. I'm not sure yet if this is supposed
to supplement or replace their location on 3900 South. I presume it's
the latter.

Draper’s ambitious dream to build an outdoor bicycling arena at the mouth of Corner Canyon may be gradually turning into reality.

The City Council has voted to donate 5 acres, a site plan has been developed and marketing materials have been assembled.

All that remains is the biggest hurdle: raising $1.5 million in pledges to build the arena — known in the cycling world as a velodrome.

“I think it’s very doable,” said Jeff Stenquist, a council member and, for two decades, a bicyclist.

“I don’t think that we are overreaching. We just need to get support from community donations,” Stenquist said.

I think the purpose of those is to trap heat during cold days. Fun fact: they were manufactured in Duluth, MN.

There will also be senior housing built on the same block just to the northwest of this project.
