I assume that also means the Grand Staircase has already been taken care of or it'll go down during the same time frame.

They've decided to keep it.

Wow, it looks like a lot of progress has been made since the last update! Just out of curiosity, does anyone know when the whole "bathtub" area is expected to be at ground level?

It is already past ground level. The steel for all the buildings has past the street level several months ago.

I meant when will all structural elements for below ground in that area be completed?

Even with all the continuing construction work surrounding it, the memorial is a site to behold!

This memorial, especially the pools, are stunning. It's really evident how much thought and care went in to creating this amazing public space. The area is quiet and feel secluded and once the canopy of the trees is fully grown in it will be a great space. Every detail from the lighting design to the stones and walkways are wonderfully cohesive and well thought out. The pools however are the most stunning part. Saving the foundations of the original WTC and re-using them in this manner is a humbling tribute to the original site. The black stone, water, and light all create solemnly beautiful memorial. The water itself was also expertly done, with each single stream of water carrying every detail of the wind, creating a living, breathing space that is as inspiring to its environment as reactive to it. This memorial is probably one of the single best in the US, and certainly outside of Washington.

The museum, however, is a stunning disappointment. It’s a distasteful behemoth that is plopped down on the middle of the site, with little care to fit into its surroundings, let alone be attractive it its own right. Its saving grace is the single glass corner with the exposed structure, which is a single moment of brilliance. Its too bad such a beautiful memorial is marred by this grey turd, or the architects couldn’t create a space that could fully match its surroundings.

Please excuse my tripod-less night photos.

I love this view from the memorial. It's a very classic looking view that contrasts from the rest of the glassy WTC. It looks like the background of an old movie signifying that you're in New York City, with all those layers of old buildings stepping upward. I hope this view remains and that the future Tower 5 doesn't block it much.

Excellent photos and interesting commentary, however I respectfully disagree with your opinion on the museum. I think its an very interesting design that actually evokes the exterior of the original twin towers. I don't think it destroys the site at all the way you describe, in fact i think it adds to its beauty.

Couldn't agree more @SBARN. the museum building in person is even more stunning than in pictures. You really get the full impact of the prior towers, in the presence of their prior footprints and the "falling" motif that it invokes is extremely powerful, appropriate and brilliant.

Are the four large supports (underneath the floor with the Calatrava arches above) the columns that The Rising said weigh about 500,000 pounds each?
