Any idea what is with the large area between Purcells cove and Hering cove? It's an area the size of the peninsula with no development.

i would also love to see them finish the starboard connector so that halifax transit can get a bus up here. Walking 20 minutes to and from the bus stop every day is getting very old.

Just curious - where is the dividing line between Bedford and Halifax these days? I know everything is officially HRM but would folks living on Larry Uteck be considered part of Bedford or Halifax?

There's a mobile tower crane now onsite at the Gardens III. (Photo by me)

All of Larry Uteck is now in Halifax, all of Southgate Drive is in Bedford, all of Starboard Drive is in Halifax, and all of Nine Mile Drive is in Bedford.

In reality though the entire area is just considered a part of both communities just like West Bedford will be. As I once heard Councillor Hum say the entire Mainland area from Spryfield right to the tip of Bedford is just becoming one large neighbourhood that blends the three communities together.

I drove down Larry Uteck for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Very impressive! It's like an instant city out there.

I must admit though, I don't get the concept of having those roundabouts right off the exit from the 102; it's more confusing than anything else (and this is from somebody who doesn't mind roundabouts too much).

Its a beautiful area in there. There are lots of small lakes, trails and natural bedrock barrens. Makes for a great hike. A large part of the forest was burnt back in the 09 fire. So it should grow back strong in a few years. If you ask me it should be protected and made into a provincial park. (at least the rock barrens).

It saddens me that we focus on new green space within the city where we should be focused on density yet we chop down natural forests for a labyrinth of cookie cutter neighborhoods just outside the city boundaries. And as ive said, Man made green space is just grass with a squiggly sidewalk through the middle and some scrawny tree's. Only a slight step up from a parking lot

Anyone else get dumb-founded when they realised a large grocery store in Nova Scotia will not have a 'LC attached to it?!

Oh well whenever the other side of the interchange is developed they will likely attach one to the rumoured Superstore location.

Yeah that surprised me too. I thought the same that maybe Superstore had beat them to the punch in negotiations for who gets the NSLC. Or maybe one of the "future development spots" will have a free standing liquour store like in Bayers Lake next to Superstore.

After looking at the map again I noticed there is a section attached on the left hand side of Sobeys that has an unnamed tenant, maybe that will be it.

Yes, I think the liquor commission is usually attached to the left side. At least I think that's how it's arranged at Mill Cove and most of the other combined locations.

I see they also spelled "Uteck" incorrectly on the map. (Just nitpicking... )

You may be right. That unnamed tenant to the left of Sobeys has its own loading dock on the plan which all large NSLC locations seem to need. Interestingly, the Dollarama does not.

Looks like there won't be a lack of parking.

What percentage of land in that area is actually used for buildings? Maybe 7-10%? What a waste.

This is doing sprawl pretty much as bad as it can be done and it's depressing that it's accelerating at a time when examples of better alternatives have spread all over North America. Even the parts of Clayton Park that began development 30-40 years ago are loads more livable. This area won't be remotely walkable anytime within the next 100 years, even outside the commuting sense.
