Not surprised the proposal is a building with ground level retail with condos on top.

I like it! Reatail, not to high and a clean modern design.

-The Works
-Epicuria Fine Foods
-Time Sharpening (jewelry and watch repair)

and nearby
-Co-operators Insurance is at 534 Montreal Rd (near St Laurent)

LOL!!!

At worst it could be this:
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_9-coSRlRBk...+bike+rack.JPG

"Wheel bender" racks are impractical and don't hold as many bikes as some would think.

My workplace claims 100 bike parking spots. In reality its more like 50.

On first glance, a little anemic looking (colourless) but the mass and lines seem nice in render form, as does the material mix of glass and masonry.

What I find disappointing is that the ugly buildings at Chricton and Beechwood will remain. I was hoping that the developers would make a deal and incorporate the New Ed terrasse into the new structure.

The building will look unanchored without a corner at the bridge intersection.

not too sure I like how bland this design is! it almost looks like a seniors residence! this building will be diagonally opposite the new Kavanaugh Domicile condo which will look better in my opinion

This is actually several blocks down from the Kavanaugh and because of the curves Beechwood makes, it doubtful you'd even be able to see one building from the other at street level.

Regardless, I like this. It's handsome but understated.

I really like this. I hope it sails through quickly and we can have something there soon. Things I've overhead on the street suggest that some will make a fuss just because they can, but I hope that they're ignored. This looks nice, it's contextual, and more importantly, something like this needs to be there. It's such a hole in the neighbourhood.

I do too, but it'll be nibbled out of all recognition by the Nimby Edinburgh Child-protection Association.

That does seem to be what I've overheard occasionally on my daily travels (I live behind the Metro, so just a filthy Vanier resident). It does seem that as soon as some have heard that it was Minto, they got their heckles up and were ready to oppose. Nevertheless, I hope (with a deliberate and conscious measure of naivete) that it just happened to be a few cranks and not representative of any broader organized opinion.

Blank Wall?

From the renderings, it looks like there will be a concrete lank wall facing West which you will see as you cross the st Patrick bridge.

I believe Minot wanted to get a hold of the building at the chrichton corner, butwasunable to due to long term leases. Anyone know foamy progress? It seems a shame that this corner, possibly with dining terrasse overlooking the river and parliament, cannot be used to properly anchor this building at the entrance to new Edinburgh.

The building at that corner used to be the Linden Theatre, a then popular neighbourhood movie cinema. It then became the Mountain Equipment Coop, which has now moved to Westboro, on Richmond Road. It is now the site for New Edinburg Pharmacy which has much square footage for an independent pharmacy and is very successful since it caters to a catchment area from Manor Park to Lower Town, including Rockliffe Village and much of Vanier. That pharmacy used to be at the other end of the block and is a continuation of a former pharmacy that used to be in the building that burned down.

I doubt that SDM would want a spot in Minto's new building and compete but I would not be surprised if they try to buy out the New Edinburg Pharmacy.

Also, there's the New Edinburg Pub at 1 Beechwood, a very popular watering hole with a summer patio upstairs.

Just saw the piece that CBC ottawa did on the New Edinburgh Community Association meeting regarding the plans.

Everyone seems happy.

Didn't anyone ask about the big blank wall facing West?
