Does anyone know where the old Halifax Development threads are from before we got the Halifax Local? I thought there use to be a link in here somewhere, or have the old threads been since deleted?

I think that all the threads were just continued under the new Halifax Local. Some threads such as the United Gulf towers (TexPark site) go back over 3 years. For example here is the first page from the United Gulf thread - http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=139678

Yeah, I think that is where I had seen it before too. With the lull of activity over the break I was trying to look back at some of the older projects.

Hmm.. there were definitely one or more threads called the "Official Halifax Project Thread" that pre-date the local. I would guess that they do go back to 2003 or so -- I started posting back in 2001. Not sure where it is or if it is still archived on SSP.

I have an old photo gallery still up at http://www.pbase.com/halifaxphoto that goes back to 2003 or so and includes stuff like old renderings of the Alexander:

I have some interesting old construction pictures as well although many of them are poor quality:

Interesting pictures, especially the first one showing the Alexander in the downtown core.

Salter's Gate is also rendered in that photo. The tower is 27 storeys, which was the original height proposed in 2003 or so.

I just spent some time searching in the archives and elsewhere and cannot find the old "Official Halifax Project Thread". I know it was around a year or so ago as I spent the better part of an afternoon whiling away the hours browsing the old discussions. I don't know if it has been removed or if I simply cannot find it.

If it is gone, it would be a real shame. There were lots of photos and other good info there. Perhaps a moderator can assist?

It's the older photo's like that that I was looking for. I joined in 2006, and had been browsing for a little while before that, so there are a few projects I'd like to see in the construction phase now that I have a better understanding of things.

I also remember when the foreground apartment building went up, replacing an old Irving (I think?).

It's weird to on the one hand have this stuff and on the other read news articles about how there is no development in Halifax. The reality is that there's been tons of construction over the past 10 years.

With the addition of the new crane in Russell Lake West this week I believe we have a NEW CRANE RECORD for HRM (at least since the list went up).

There are 17 cranes at 15 construction sites in Halifax, Dartmouth and Bedford.

Unfortunately I think the first Russel Lake came down today, I didn't notice it over there today, could be wrong though, I only had a quick look.

Well according to my calculations I have a 60% pass rate in predicting construction projects. Six of my top ten were started in 2011

Barrington Espace - 5 floors
Halifax Central Library - 6 floors
City Centre Atlantic - 5 floors
Saint Lawrence Place (3473 Dutch Village Rd) - 12,5 floors
Waterton II - 12 floors
Wright's Cove - 6 floors
Wright & Burnside Campus - 8X3 floors
Gottingen @ Cunard - 4 floors
West Bedford Educational Centre - 3 floors

These ones didn't have any luck this year

The Alexander - 19 floors (unknown reasons)
Salter Street Block - 12,5 floors (cancelled)
Waterside Centre (1860 Upper Water St) - 9 floors (bomb shelter?)
Gottingen Terrace - 4 floors (funding issues)
Bayview Condos - 19 floors (lot for sale)
Craigmore Condos - 16 floors (unknown reasons)
Rockcliffe Village - 2X12,2X6 floors (unknown reasons)
Case 16312 (Larry Uteck Blvd) - 2X10 floors (DA amendments dropped)
King's Wharf - I,C - 30 & 12 floors (starting Spring 2012)
King's Wharf - D - 10 floors (changed to residential)
Notting Village Phase II & III - 7 & 4 floors (empty phase I)
Willow Ridge Apartments - 4 floors (unknown reasons)
660 Larry Uteck Boulevard - 6 floors (unknown reasons)
Southgate Village (836 Bedford Highway) - 4 floors (unknown reasons)
827 Bedford Highway - 3 floors (unknown reasons)
Stonington Park A (? Gary Martin Drive) - 6 floors (unknown reasons)
Nova Centre - 18,14 floors (commitment issues)
Drum Condominiums - 6 floors (proposal not pushed forward by developer)
Gottingen St Towers - 2X10-8fl (HRM approval issues over height)
LeMarchant Residences - 6 floors (demolition in process)

I'll make my predictions for this year after my vacation if I remember to do so.

827 Bedford Highway should be breaking ground very soon. Permit drawings for sure have gone out & I believe they have gone for pricing as well.

Okay I have spent wayyy too much time lately trying to update this damn list. I think after hours of research and restructuring I finally got everything up-to-date but its been an uphill battle trying to stay on top of all the new projects and update the under construction ones.

If someone can go back through a double check the list with their knowledge I beg you to do so.

Oh and if anybody wants to take up updating the maps I will gladly buy you a two-four of your favourite beer!
