Through running only makes sense to me if the MTA/PATH/NJT are combined into one authority.

Gov. Hochul’s Interborough Express plan faces old MTA dilemma

By

Published Nov 17, 2023

Gov. Kathy Hochul is getting a hard lesson on the MTA as she pushes her plan for a light rail Interborough Express between Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and Jackson Heights, Queens.

During an open house meeting on the project last week, the deputy chief of staff for the MTA’s construction department let slip a sobering reality:

“The MTA can’t in good conscience invest in new infrastructure without making sure that we have the funding in place to secure our existing system.”

MTA officials later tried to downplay the comment, saying the IBX remained a top priority of the agency.

The plan for a street running segment and for light rail in general is garbage...I don't know how they think this won't come back to bite them.

a new 7th ave entrance at penn is complete —

New York’s Penn Station revamps major entrance ahead of hectic holiday travel rush

By Giulia Heyward
Published Nov 19, 2023

The redesign of the 7th Avenue and 32nd Street entrance at New York’s Penn Station is finally complete — marking the latest in a massive overhaul of the country’s busiest train hub.

“It's wider, which is great. It was always very crowded and now it’s not,” said Reginald Guillaume, who was standing outside the entrance on Sunday. “The sign is very beautiful."

He added, “Before they started to renovate it, it looked like dystopian city. It doesn't look like that anymore, which is great.”

airtrain price hike to $8.50 on the way —

AirTrain fare will soar to $8.50 per ride next spring, Port Authority says; commuter advocates seethe

By Ben Brachfeld
Posted on November 19, 2023

Each trip cost will cost a quarter more than the current $8.25 fare as of March 3, while tolls will jump by 63 cents on the agency’s seven bridges and tunnels connecting New York and New Jersey in January.

The “inflation-based” hikes were automatically triggered due to a 3.7% increase in the consumer price index over the past year, the Port Authority reported.

Unsurprisingly, people have a lot of opinions about congestion pricing tolls. FOX 5 NY's Linda Schmidt hears what lawmakers and drivers have to say.

With this and congestion pricing the city is really going to have to go after vehicles with fake or concealed plates. I mean start impounding them after a warning.

I didn't know such a thing existed. We desperately need that here.
