London on a charming Saturday evening

A few bits of London in the afternoon and evening while walking from the City towards West End and the South bank yesterday. Only 23 pictures this time but I do have some free time during the weekends and I'll do my best next time

I never thought your fascianation with all things Asian would last this long
That London Chinatown is very small, you must have criss-crossed every square foot by now.

London's Chinatown is indeed quite small but very charming and well ordered. Moreover (and most importantly!) it's expanding so quickly with new restaurants opening in the nearby streets (I guess this has got something to do with the fact that more and more Mainland Chinese are coming to study or for other purposes to the UK). A good shelter for those addicted to Asia

Liverpool has the oldest China Town in Europe and possibly the western world. San Franciso lay claim the the oldest, yet Liverpool's can be proven to be older.

I was talking about the largest, not oldest
And thats where neither Liverpool nor London can compete with San Franciso or Vancouver.

My own city, Toronto , has the third (some say second) largest Chinatown of NOrth America, and the biggest if all SIX of them were combined

hmmm. nope. i have been to sf, van, sea, and tor chinatowns and its no contest, new yorks is bigger. err that is, if you count all three of'em as one - lol!

i am very much enjoying these old london threads jonas, great work. i am visiting london in a week so as you can imagine its good to see the place first. thx again.

ps - i will for sure check out london's chinatown area, but of course being a manhattanite i am zeroing in a bit harder on brick lane and the older pubs.

Perhaps you didn't know, but I have a very special feeling about things relating to the Far East which means the Chinatown of London, whatever it is, is THE place to me (unlike Brick Lane...). However, there are some nice Vietnamese restaurants in East London, in particular Kingsland Road which is a walking distance from Brick Lane

oh i realize brick lane has about the same rep of nyc's east sixth street as far as quality, that is to say its not great, but i just want to see it (also there is an old bagel shop or two there too i want to hit for comparison purposes). but thanks for the nearby viet backup tip, i didnt know anything at all about that kind of nabe in london.

for the camera work i am also bent on the train stations and squares and stuff like that. at the moment i am most looking forward to exploring temple, lincolns and grays, --- but that changes with every look at the michelin guide and the pamphlets i got at the nyc british travel office the other day!
