Frankly, I don't give a damn. The degree to which ALDOT has had to slash the number of projects it can fund has been ridiculous over the past 10-15 years. I know many do not like it, but how else are we going to fund improvements instead of simple maintenance (btw, simple maintenance is about 90% of ALDOT's focus, due to funding).
No, the new gas tax wil not contriute directly to public transit, but at least ALDOT will be able to increase roadway capacity where necessary (no induced demand anticipated,
at the moment).
Finally, The Big 4 (now The Big 4 + Tuscaloosa; I'm not ready to call it 'The Big 5' yet...) will actually experience funding for capital projects instead of
only maintenance of existing infrastructure.
