Unless they do glass squares and make it flush, maybe with LED lights behind. Could look cool. I like the podium. Gives off an 80's vibe. But, I do get what you're saying. In that render it does look like it might just go through to the parkade, which would not look that great overtime.

Would be interesting to see what the talented minds in this forum (not mine) can come up with. I think with that much land, the "Cultural District" that many refer to will have some solid competition from "Sawdust Flats"(see, I never said I was good at urban planning or catchy district naming).

Thanks for the updates.

Amazing how much is going on in Kelowna!

Now we just need to remind the provincial government that Kelowna and Victoria also exist for infrastructure expansion.

First we need to remind them that infrastructure expansion exists.

Just drove past the intersection of St. Paul and Doyle and noticed that the small building on former Monaco site has been demolished. Has anybody heard of anything going on with that site? It’s the second building to be demolished at that corner since the fall.

Haven’t heard anything about that yet.

Crane is up at the Cawston site, at the corner of Cawston and Richter St.

Former RCMP Site

Looks like we have a bit of movement on the Doyle property. Thing is, I can't make it add up. When the city leased the property, one of the parameters was a maximum building height of 13 stories. Wexford Developments (link attached) is boasting 300+ residential units. In looking at all of the available concept information I can find, residential units only add up to 166 units. Perhaps the city is looking to change the height restriction as my math says they will need to go to 26 floors on the tower. Early concept shows a tower with an apartment style 6 floor (4 floor residential) on the north side. Anyone have some insight on this?

I was comparing other high rises dt to see how many units those are. 300 units is a lot. Bertram on Bernard says there are 257 units and it’s a 36 or 34 story building. The building at the old police sights sounds like it’s going to be over 30 stories. We shall see. Either way it’s def going to be taller than the height allowance. Ellis park which I think is 15 floors has only 91 units

They seem to be walking something back here as the tweet mentioned in the Castanet article has been deleted and the website shows an error on page.

Slender skyline touted for Kelowna's future

TL/DR: Current bylaws allow for floor plates on high rise buildings of up to 1,221 sq m, far greater than 750 sq m found in many other cities. Proposed amendment to reduce it to 930 sq m for commercial buildings and 750 sq m for residential buildings. This bylaw kicks in for (how I interpret it) any floors above 12 storeys or 40 metres. Any existing development permits issued may continue to be developed as approved.

This is excellent news if it passes. I'm not a fan of fat towers and the massive shadows they create. The views of the skies and the sunshine are part of what makes downtown Kelowna great.

One Water Street is already a bit fat in my opinion. Cheers for some better future city planning!

It has been approved, I suppose that doesn’t necessarily mean that it will get built however. The developer sure seems motivated though.

I’m not sure where a good place would be to post this on the larger forum but found it interesting and thought you guys on here may as well.
