Just testing my memory: Is this the site that formerly housed a Volkswagen dealership?

As a side note, this strip was car dealership central in the 1960s and 1970s and now is slowly being claimed back as residential/retail. For those who are hoping that the lands around Kempt Road will someday switch from car dealerships to residential, here is a model that shows it can happen.

Good to know... I do hope we don't have to wait ~50 years to see Kempt Road transformation!

I doubt you'll have to wait that long, given the growth numbers that we are experiencing, plus the changes that the auto industry are about to experience.

We'll see...

The place still looks to be operating with lots full of cars. I walked by the other day and wondered if they sold to a developer who is just getting paperwork done even before the dealership wraps up. Completely random speculation by me.

^The developer officially took ownership of the property this week. The dealership is still in operation as of today. The demolition permit expires March 12th so they have a couple of months to close or relocate.

Hopefully there is some associated commercial development and not all these people need to be clogging the bridges every day.

Not everyone who lives in Dartmouth needs to drive to Halifax on a regular basis.

Yeah, I would think a lot of these residences would be attractive to people who work in Burnside, or on the Dartmouth side in general. Or, the ones near the Macdonald bridge would be ideal for taking transit to Halifax - I know I wouldn't bother to drive to Hfx from those locations if I could just walk across the street and grab a bus to DT Halifax or whereever.

Taking the bus in HRM is never a good plan.

It should be noted this development is about 100 metres from a planned BRT stop (Purple Line). Between the BRT, protected bike lanes, Macdonald Bridge sidewalk, and the fact a lot of people in North Dartmouth work in Burnside this should have little impact on the local gridlock.

I take the bus 3 days/week from Dartmouth Downtown to VG Hospital, except for a slowdown on the Bridge it moves right along. There should be a bus lane on the MacDonald in the mornings.

The development happening on the Dartmouth side of the MacDonald bridge will be completed in five years and by then there will likely be a lot more high rises in that area beginning to up. So by 2034 Nantucket-Wyse will heavily populated. Now according to the bridge commission, we will have a new North Narrows Bridge (old Mackay). That bridge will take an enormous traffic load off the MacDonald because the new bridge will be six lanes. At that time it will total sense to have a permanent dedicated bus lane on the MacDonald....but until then....

A max three lane bridge to remain for 75 years.
In that span of time North Narrows (my name for the new Mackay to be built by 2040) could have eight lanes and the south tunnel (please please be a tunnel!) Will have four. Therefore MacDonald could literally only need to care bus lanes and LRT making it a transit bridge only

Demolition fencing is now up.

The building and grade alteration permits are submitted, so once the excavator knocks this down I'll list it as under construction.

There is one on CPJ Construction's Instagram account. I can't figure out how to post it though.
