I'm convinced that the diamonds on the e-w facades will be illuminated at night, which will be utterly spectacular.

I notice that all of the terrace, amenity spaces are enclosed. Should be as spectacular as those of 425 Park.

I can't believe I figured out the design by looking ar 3 images. I'm updating the 3d model by adding all of the bracing now

It would be better if the top was just a continuation of the rest of the tower- a box. Infinitely improved right away, and a contrast to the skinny towers and spires going up like Chase Manhattan Plaza in 1950.

If NYYimby's scoop is legit (and there's no reason to think it's not given what we've seen so far), this will be a new icon on the skyline. I hope that the bracing is the copper'y color of what we've seen. It's unique and gorgeous and reminds me of 45 Broad.

It's crazy how high some of those ceilings are, but hey, it's a 57 story tower that's about as high as the Sears to the roofline.

Those sky gardens look amazing though, would love to hang out there

Impressive work! I was doubtful but you where right on. This tower and the one with the double spire look so nice in the skyline, what tower is that?

350 Park Avenue, also designed by Foster and Partners

They look cool, but i'd like to see the last two set backs and crown extended somewhat, so the crown climbs to a height of 1,500 ft.

Think it would like even better that way..

but who am I to complain! (:

I was just about to ask that someone put the rendering here, along with 350 Park, but that's better. And it assures me of a couple of things. First, 350 needs to get built. And the Grand Hyatt tower needs a spire to top out in the 1,700 ft range.

I think it's a great mix, setbacks are nice sometimes, but so are 1,400+ foot glassy walls that shoot straight up

Also on the Roosevelt site you could build a tower, with a spire, of 1,770 ft tall.

I...Don't hate it. It's actually pretty nice, I just wish we didn't have to lose the current building.

One of my main concerns was the crown and IMO, I'm very happy with it.

I think originally, some of the mass models kinda scared us, the ones a few months back, thinking this would be a banal box with no crown or architecture element, but Foster has delivered.

Just look at it versus 1 Vandy. My Lord this is massive and 1 Vandy ain't no skinny tower either. This tower is Phat.

But Tower Fifth, ughghgh, what a terrible way to ruin a good rendering by seeing Tower Fifth.

Bumping up from my previous question thus far unanswered...and rightfully so, since I don't think I made a whole lotta sense.

But I noticed noodling around with the 3d model that looking straight down, the N/S profiles of the tower seem to have the slightest bit of convexity to them...or is that an optical illusion?

Since 277 and 245 have essentially the same square footage, we could possibly see larger towers than this should they meet the demo man.

But I prefer to keep the two and lobby for half-resi conversion.

I really like this one. If the design and massing stay the same, this will be another good one for the skyline as One Vanderbilt is. Also, I'm hopeful that rendering and model are true to the facade design. Supertalls need noticeable facade features to break up the monotony of such large surface areas. Having a 1,400 foot facade of relative blandness doesn't do the skyline any favors. So I'm glad to see something like this with some kind of pattern in the facade.

And as an aside, I still wish they'd redo their plans for that robotic blockhead of a tower to the right of this one. The name escapes me as it's the building I love to forget.
