To be fair, it was a wonder given the anti-development climate and phobia over tallish buildings that HRM Council and certain lobby groups had been successful in creating over the preceding couple of decades.

Haha yes I remember how absolutely ground breaking it was. Although even then, some in this forum compared it to early 90's Vancouver developments. And wasn't there some kind of major issue with the ventilation system?

The brick really does look decent. It's too bad more new builds don't use a masonry veneer like this; it makes a significant difference. It doesn't elevate a mediocre building into a great one, but the additional sense of solidity and texture is absolutely appreciated.

The crane was slow being removed too - but I think that was more a function of freeing up the space at Willet for it to go. There is cladding above the podium on the harbour side when I drove by this weekend.
