being that i don't see a whole lot more of this happening at the major league level, i thought it would also be interesting to also look at which metros have multiple minor league teams.

Chicagoland:

minor league baseball:

Class A - Kane County Cougars
American Association* - Chicago Dogs
American Association* - Gary Railcats
Frontier League* - Windy City Thunderbolts
Frontier League* - Schaumburg Boomers
Frontier League* - Joliet Slammers

(*) independent professional league not affiliated with MLB

minor league basketball:

NBA G League - Windy City Bulls
WNBA - Chicago Sky

minor league hockey:

AHL - Chicago Wolves

minor league soccer:

NWSL - Chicago Red Stars

so there's lots of opportunities for professional sports in chicago outside of the city's six major league teams (MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL & MLS).
I think some people would take offense to calling the WNBA "minor league", lol. It's certainly not the draw of it's NBA counterpart, but it's every bit as professional.

all the minor leagues i listed above are "professional", as in the players are paid professionals, not unpaid amateurs.

i put the WNBA as a minor league because its revenue is but a minuscule fraction of north america's "big 5" major leagues.

No. It's entirely accurate. Minor leagues are pro leagues too. Actually the WNBA might not even qualify as a pro league since it loses money. It's subsidized by the labor of male athletes

Whatever

I don't watch the WNBA so I don't care, but it's certainly the premier women's basketball league on the planet.

Now that the WNBA has its own commissioner they can focus on becoming profitable.
