Minor change to the thread title.

Since the renovation has been completed for some time and we are posting all AZ Center development news here, decided to update thread title to "Development" instead of "Renovation".

Anyone know what happened to the purple lights they added to one of the AZ tower buildings a while back. Haven’t seen it on for a while.

I hadn't passed by in a while and maybe this was already discussed but does anyone know when the grass area was fenced off?

Canyon Cafe has closed, leaving Hooter's as the only full-service restaurant at the Arizona Center. Canyon Cafe, originally known as Sam's Cafe, was one of the few survivors from the original lineup of tenants at the Arizona Center. It endured for three decades, closed for a year due to COVID, and then briefly reopened in the spring before closing forever.

To me, the restaurant was always good but not great. It was a dependable place for a business lunch or a pre-event dinner, but the Southwestern fare was tame compared to some of the more flavorful options we have now. The restaurant catered a lot to convention and event attendees who are still in limited supply downtown.

With this closure, I'd say the majority of the Arizona Center's retail space is vacant. With the exception of Jersey Mike's, nothing new has been announced. If the residential tower goes forward, it can't be helpful in recruiting people to live there if the adjacent retail is mostly empty.

I actually really liked Sam's back in the 90s. They used to bring out these white chocolate tamales after dinner and their chips and salsa was pretty interesting. All of that changed when they re-branded to Canyon. We stopped going.

But have the signs been on the fences for the tower? I just noticed them this weekend.

Sam’s Cafe. Holy cow I haven’t thought about that place in forever. I was really good back in the day…. They used to have locations all around town, no?

I only knew of the one upstairs at fashion park and the one downtown. Texas company, I thought.
