This site (nor the industry in general) does not consider demolition or excavation construction. This thread will be moved to the supertall construction sub once the construction of the actual building starts.

I know we're all excited for TO's first true supertall but the rules are the rules.

as the visually defining feature of toronto's entire skyline i'd say the CN tower definitely "counts" for something. it's not like you can look at toronto's skyline and not notice that giant tower sailing high above everything else.

but some people get all persnickety about silly "rules" of multi-story skyscrapers blah, blah, blah, so it's good that toronto will soon have an "official" conventional super-tall skyscraper to put the debate to rest for good.

so yes, congrats to toronto! it's been a long time coming, and it might open the super-tall flood gates for the city.

Really? Toronto has 77 buildings built or u/c over 500ft. Not many cities can say that.

Tdrew - Phil's tongue in cheek comment was funny.

Steely: the whole measure ur member phenomenon is kinda silly... before "categories" were created .... back in 1975 O&Y/BMO might have installed a tent (with tent tenant) and avoided 40 year of "no super tall" angst LOL.

But inches/feet/yards/metres matter now ;-)

It was possible but newly build condos have extra modern amenities as compared to previous condos.

Well, I have always supposed it's fair to regard the CN Tower as a non-building, in the sense that it's not inhabitable (it's essentially a glorified radio mast), so it must be kept off such lists. With that in mind, there's no question that Toronto's skyline would be nowhere near as distinctive without its soaring, muscular presence.

It has indeed been a long time coming, considering FCP - of which I'm extremely fond, by the way - was built 40+ years ago, at the same time as CN. I guess there just hasn't been a business case for something taller until now. Anyway, I concede that 300 m/1,000 ft is a thoroughly arbitrary figure to anyone who isn't a skyscraper aficionado. I imagine most regular people in Toronto are yawning at news of these groundbreakings.

Interesting that you should say that. I've often dreamt that if I were to inherit multi-billion dollars, and could actually purchase the CN Tower, I could turn it into one heck of an awesome private condo.

You have lights. You have direct access to water and sanitation. Wouldn't take much to turn the landings in the CN Tower's core into spacious condos suites. Still, too short for a megatall. (you just know people will move on to megatalls once the first supertall tops out in the city)

Ha, well, it only cost $44 million to build back in '73-'76. Maybe you can make the owners an offer they can't refuse.
Technically, it is habitable, of course, but it's 120 floors of nothing but stairs and elevators, a few floors of viewing platforms and restaurants, and then another 700 ft of nothing (you could maybe make a bachelor pad out of the Skypod).

^^^ Sounds like a lyric line from a Drake song. Then again, both are a part of modern Toronto.

The name is not a mystery. It's a reference to its address. Anyway, who cares?

I have heard about The One Condos project is developed by Mizrahi Developments. It is an 86 storey building in One Bloor West, Toronto and currently taking registration.

so, is this project officially under construction (per SSP rules) yet? can we move it to the U/C sub-forum now?

i'm not talking about ceremonial groundbreakings, or site prep/demo, or excavation, but actual construction on the building's foundation system.

a picture would be worth about 8 trillion words here.
