Does anyone know if HFR funding will be included in the 2021 budget?

So did I.

It's patently ridiculous that they didn't start their $70M scoping study soon after getting elected in 2015. Then finally funded something proper with the CIB. But only right before an election.

With all the insinuation that it's under consideration, they must have some kind of business case complete. I wish they'd put it out. And if they can't fund the thing, just say the project is off and let's move on to considering how else VIA can be improved. Dragging this out forever is frustrating.

We may have lost our beaux art masterpiece as our central railway station, but in exchange we got a mid-century masterpiece. And it continues to improve though investments.

Ottawa station is getting greener! Our flagship station for accessibility and inter-modality is now LEED® Gold-certified, demonstrating once again VIA Rail’s commitment to sustainability. http://bit.ly/385vZc6

What great images. A marvel of mid-century modern architecture.

Wow.. stunning. Part of me wishes we still had direct service to downtown at the old central station, but I'm quite happy with this alternative. Iconic mid-century architectural design and better configuration, functionally-speaking, for frequent through-service between MTL and TOR. Not to mention improved accessibility to downtown with LRT.

Yup, I think we got it pretty good with this beauty.

Part of me always feels that station looks better in photographs than in person.

This!!! Photography can make something ugly look beautiful. This is my image of the Ottawa Train Station. A large, blank, concrete wall and an ugly black roof.

That large, blank, concrete wall is just screaming out for a mural on it, similar to the ones we've seen go up around downtown the last year. Talk about livening up the building!

And it is OK for you not to like the look/function of this award-winning building. There were plenty of people who didn't like the Eiffel Tower in Paris, either. That's one of the nice things about a friendly forum, such as this; everyone can voice their opinion and not worry about being 'slammed' for it.

I happen to think the building is an interesting one and definitely worth keeping - although I don't think that it is beautiful.

I used to despise the station, possibly due to my frustration at the 1966 shuttering of old Union, but have grown to appreciate it over time.

Those twitter photos seem very saturated, which I think makes certain areas, particularly underground, look better than they are.

I always thought the long blank wall was a later addition, but it seems to be original to the 60s. To my untrained eye it seems not to match the rest of the station.

This update Document on the new equipment procurement was posted on Urban Toronto:

http://www.highspeed-rail.org/Docume...2021_Final.pdf

Interestingly, if you look on page 13, it appears as though the Alexandria sub will be used for testing next winter with Ottawa Station used as a home base. I am guessing the testing will be done overnight, when the tracks aren't being used so during the day there may be good photo opportunities at Ottawa Station.

I finally received this response from my MP yesterday. Basically a lot of words and no commitment (not that I am surprised).

Thank you for sharing your support for this recommendation with me, Roger.

Rail transportation plays a vital role in a country the size of Canada. We depend on transportation to move goods and services safely and efficiently. If we want to ensure a speedy economic recovery, we need to provide Canadians with safe travel by rail, bus and air.

Thanks again for bringing this matter to my attention.

Sincerely,

Pierre Poilievre P.C., M.P. Carleton
Shadow Minister for Jobs and Industry
