The last page is full of fantastic shots I've never seen before! This is why I love this thread!

What a fascinating view of a half-modern/half-ancient skyline!

An old picture on display at St. John's City Hall.

The bare area to the left of the Basilica is the former Fort Townshend grounds, where The Rooms now stands.

Cool. Mid-late 1800s I'm guessing?

I honestly don't know. Two large buildings below the Basilica stand out as no longer existing. The downtown buildings look like they could have been white with blue/grey roofs, which would have put them before the great fire of 1892.

But there are a couple of Mansard roofs in there. Those were VERY rare in St. John's prior to the fire.

American military marching in St. John's, WWII.

The extreme west end of St. John's before the Waterford River was narrowed and banked. What I love most about this shot is that it shows how densely the city was built from scratch. Whole rowhouse blocks were put up in the middle of nowhere, and gradually connected. None of the suburban sprawl of today.

Oh, that doesn't surprise me - but gentrified today, that'd be lovely. It'd be a similar dynamic to most of old St. John's.

Nice ones! And I love the rather "fanciful" drawing of Sherbrooke.

This thread is epic. Just epic. By far, the best of the Canada forum. Wonderful photos and a refreshing absence of the bickering and nauseating homerism repleting other threads.

Calgary between 1960 and 1963
From the CPL collections

Between 1915 and 1945, Calgary's population had only grown from 70,000 to 97,000. By 1955 it was at 180,000. By 1965 it was 311,000 (though some of this was not growth from migrants or births but from annexations of surrounding municipalities).

^Those are great - thanks Boris.
Virtually unrecognizable from today, thankfully there are still a few landmarks from then around today so I could place the photos.
