Patience grasshopper. The Ashford/Downing project will occupy the entire city block in behind Assumption Place, and will eat up a large surface lot right in the middle of downtown. It is not included in Nashe's excellent rendering above, as there is considerable debate as to the height of the signature tower, which some sources indicate may be astronomical. We'll wait and see on that one.

In any event, Ashford/Downing will include a signature mixed use tower, a relocated city market and a convention centre, as well as an enclosed parking structure. There are other components to this development too, but they have not yet been revealed. In any event, this development will go ahead as it will combine federal/provincial/municipal funding as well as significant private investment. The developer is one of the prestige companies in town, so, this is not fly by night, and should be completed by 2029 or so (along with all the other towers in the rendering above).

These are exciting times in Moncton. Proportionately, we are the fastest growing CMA in the country, and developers are beginning to take notice.

I know it's been brought up before, but that view really shows how Moncton can easily grow out from its current footprint. Between that and its strategic location, I don't see Moncton's star fading anytime soon.

Updated future Moncton skyline (circa 2029), with a truncated Ashford/Downing development added in:

Again, thanks to Nashe for all his hard work.

Regarding Ashford/Downing, the original proposal for this block included a "signature" tower in the 15-20 storey range, but, then other proposals starting coming in elsewhere in the downtown area, especially ICONs Infinity Tower at Main & Harper, now under construction which will be 30 storeys tall. Apparently Ashford took some umbrage to this and redesigned his proposal so that it would be the tallest skyscraper in the city. There are wild rumours out there about how high he wants to go. In any event, Nashe has opted for prudence, and has added in the original tower at it's original proposed height. I imagine it will end up taller than this, but not as tall as the outlandish rumours.

I'm intrigued to learn more about this "unannounced project" that they mentioned they had to crop out/not include as to not reveal it yet.

From the Saint John thread.
