How good is our info on the orientation of Aqua? STR's rendering has the long axis running north-south, but given the LSE plan is there a chance it will be east-west?

Looks like something the Biothing crew in NYC would cook up.

[edit]Oh, and I think that this is designed by the same firm doing a notable building (well, notable here anyways) in St Petersburg... (a 34 story triangularized wavy/glassy/watery condo tower)

10 brand new pics in the thread, most of which are centered on the relationship of Aqua and Mandarin on the Lakeshore East area.

Well the two new towers that are on the drawing board for that area are currently listed at 835 and 880, the AON will still have around 300 feet on either of them, and that assumes that aqua and MO don't have spires included in their hight. So will it be as dominant as it has been for the last 30+ years? No. Will it still be very noticable, Yes.

2 Pru was screwed just by being built behind Aon. The only good views of 2 Pru are from the park, and Michigan & Lake. It's really too bad, I like that building...

^ STR, is there any chance of you doing that movie in something other than .avi? My computer doesn't support it...

Or, if it would be easier, can I download something to see .avi files?

This is a very "Chicagoish" tower. Chicago has its own style. Buildings like this only work in certain places. This is gonna go great. I like it a lot.

I personally think it needs some well placed setbacks to make it memorable but I can't say that I don't like it. It's a little better than average IMO but I find that what makes it unique also works poorly with the general boxiness of it. Looks kinda like a heatsink that ran into some trouble with a plane or something.

...Also straight ahead for Lakeshore East is an 82-story building for residential units and perhaps a hotel. It's planned for the east side of Columbus Drive across from the Fairmont Hotel. The architect is Jeanne Gang of Chicago, and while early sketches have circulated on the Internet, Loewenberg said they aren't accurate.

that's very interesting. and unfortunate.

i really love the project pictured in those shots from richardsonhomebuyers. if that isn't the design for aqua, i dearly hope someone else will pick up that design and build it elsewhere in the city.

ditto for me too, I can't see sh*t! avi is not a versatile format - would be great if you used mov or even mpeg.

DivX wants $20 for their non-trial version codec. no thanks!

Damn, now I see why so many Chicago forumers are numb when it comes to big projects with huge build up, youre bound to be let down in one way or another. Oh well. But then again it could turn out even better than whats been given to us so far. Maybe there is a silver lining. Whatever. Im starting to not give a damn about any of these projects until I see concrete poured or steel raised.

Knowing Loewenberg's tastes, he won't be happy with the design until it has a base larger than tower. Picture Steely's popcorn cart painted tan, and you have the ultimate Loewenberg building.
