Will Austin ever have a skyscraper with a helipad?

Kinda shocked 6X doesn't have one....Perhaps BBVA

I've always loved the look and versatility. Is it just a matter of time for us?

Are helipads common in other cities? Would they be used for? I know in LA they were required for awhile for fire reasons but I think they got rid of that requirement. Obviously Austin doesn't have any such law. What would warrant a building here having a helipad?

NYC got rid of all of theirs and banned them, you now have to go to one of the three helipads on the island to use them.

Having worked near a corporate helipads in lower Manhattan they are fucking annoying.

Tokyo still has some corporate helipads.

The only function is fast travel. In NYC that can mean Long Island/airport. In LA it can mean anywhere at all

Obviously our party would be in the rotunda of the Capitol, since that would be the target of the big alien laser.

Uber Air is launching in Dallas. If goes well may see expansion in other markets.

I think "technically" the Bowie's mechanical penthouse can land a helicopter. But it's not officially a helipad. At least that's what someone told me when I lived there –– not anyone with the leasing office or management staff, but another resident. Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob had a penthouse unit and private security and the rumor was someone such as himself could have that ability. But again, the helicopter part could have just been a rumor.

The only high rise in Austin I know of that officially has one besides Dell Seton is the former Southfield Building turned AISD Headquarters in South Austin.

The heart hospital on Lamar has one too....maybe on the 7th-8th floor.

As for purpose, I was thinking of the UberAir that sprouting mentioned. It just seems like an interesting and fading transit option (for the wealthy and well connected right now)...but perhaps something that opens up for more of the commoners as time goes by.

.....But mostly, I just love the aesthetic.

Rode in a passenger helicopter from the top of what was then known as the Pan Am Building in NYC in 1968 or 69. The flight went to JFK Airport. It cost about $30 at the time. I rode it at night with a group of friends headed back to Texas. It was pretty thrilling to lift off a fifty story building directly on top of Grand Central Station. We took the chopper mostly as a tourist experience. It was an "A" ticket for sure. Some kind of accident happened up there a few years later, and chopper service was moved over to the East River helipad.
