Looks decent, reminds me of the old VPL central branch and that's a good thing.

I really, really hope that at least some signage / lights or a screen or two are going to be placed on that building, because as shown, that is incredibly boring for such a prominent commercial / entertainment district location.

It actually looks like a police station...

Hateful to admit, but yes, you got it. Other than the respectful echo to the old VPL, it's icky-yucky-bland-ugly. Hope that lighting improvements or even design changes will go into it. This isn't necessarily the final design either. Things can change, one hopes.
..........whoa!!! those pagodas are still there, those g-f-g-l-c- ugly pagodas!!! This has gone too far.

While yes that render is rather uninspired, it's the first one we've seen. No point in getting worked up about it so early in the design/approval process. I think they should put a bunch of screens or something up and make it somewhat of a Dundas Square kind of set up where they play a movie on to Robson Square every Tuesday... and kind of make it more media/entertainment oriented.

It's awesome that they are planning to expand the mall into the basement!

Thanks for the render.

Looks OK - but even Infinity (with Chapters across the street) has more visual interest (i.e. its cube is tilted).
Unfortunately, Infinity and this render use more or less the same - beige - colour palette.

It may have been better if the Sears cube were on the Robson & Howe corner - so that the Chapters cube and the Sears/Nordstrom cube would complement each other and form a "gateway" to Granville.

Compare:

Anyway its a trivial point so sorry for bringing it up. I do agree HBC is turning htings around but bottom line is Nordstrom is one of the best run stores in the world so the bay merely turning it around from near rock bottom isn't going to concern Nordstrom one bit
what is PE?

Well then it will fit right in according to Vancouver's obsession with bland architecture. Gawd forbid we build anything bright, edgy, or large (will somebody please think of the children!!!)

I'm not sure what people were expecting, looking at the renders if they are accurate I'd put the renovations in the ~$70-100M range, on top of buying out the Sears lease and losing 3yrs of rental income this is going to cost CF ~$200+M by the time a new tenant moves in. I think we're lucky we're getting this, not many owners would could take that kind of hit.

The sandstone thing might actually be a Nordstrom thing, a lot of their stores have sandstone-coloured exteriors.
