Red face Cargo Containers as Apartments? One Man has a Plan

Cargo Containers as Apartments? One Man has a Plan

Quote:
In the Junk Drawer tonight:A Phoenix, Arizona developer and architect is taking reusability to the next level.Lorenzo Perez wants to take shipping containers, and turn them into studio apartments. There's a 40-foot container for the main living quarters with a 20-foot container for a workspace, or perhaps a second bedroom, with a shaded courtyard area in between.A spray on, ceramic based, paint serves as insulation for the metal and keeps it from heating up in the summer and cooling down in the winter.

This idea has actually been around for quite awhile...but never really implemented on a large scale.

Check out these guys, all sorts of creative ways to live:

Anyone remember the prefabbed housing concept from many moons ago that was on the same lines, but stackable to 6 stories? Whatever happened with that?

Was this going to be in Phoenix?
I saw a project just like this, but it was in an architecture design book, and the project was located somewhere in Europe...I think in the Low Countries.
If I find it, I'll scan it in.

Well I couldn't find the book, but found it online...

It is actually in Switzerland (Zurich) and not a house but some kind of store...which is still really cool non-the-less.

There's a house near Boston that was made largely from slabs of freeway that were being discarded during the Big Dig project. 600,000 lbs of building materials, including a 69,000 lb roof.

Anyway, more power to him if he can make something useful and comfortable out of those shipping containers.
