I know HooverDam just did a great photo construction update...but...

I couldn't help myself from going down today and snapping some of my own pictures. I shrived for getting some angles that he didn't hit...

First, I drove by these two buildings which are plain awesome. I wish we had more of these and we could put them to some cool funky uses.

Now on to the more usual project updates...

Ah, thanks for the shot down Washington. Where are those first two little buildings?

The first (purple) building was at 9th Ave and Pierce and the second red brick one was on 15th Ave north of Roosevelt.

I'm not too good at people joining me...heh. Here's why...

Whenever I go, I usually go in a hurry and as weird as it is, I drive to most places. Like, I'll drive to the Cityscape site, park, step out, take a couple pictures...then back in the car and go to the Civic Space Park and repeat. Or something, I just drive by and snap pictures from inside the car. You would think I would ride the rail in and walk around, but it takes too long...I usually want to be in and out in like 15-20 minutes.

Very nice pictures, where is the one of OCPE and the Chase tower from (the 6th picture)? The Sheraton?

Yea, Sheraton 18th floor. There is a window view that's accessible in every hallway up until the 29th floor, it's a great view.

I'm still planning a phoenix photo thread... and while it's not going to be as great as I think it is, I've gotten a bunch of pictures that are similar to the first two pictures you took (actually, i was going to get those exact pics, but in a later photo thread)...

If you really look, there are still some gems out there, I actually found today something I never knew existed (even though I drive by it nearly 3x a week) and it is what I think is the oldest/smallest/densest apartment building in Phoenix (and it has some historic detailing that reminded me of Seattle). Problem is, as always, that there would be so much more beauty in this city if they never allowed the demos. Anyway...

I loved your 6th pic. and the rest... thanks!

P.S. Can this city please get some facade historic renovations??? I'm sure everyone knows that building on the SEC of 7th Street and Roosevelt. It's a Llanteria/rim shop and has a huge, square corregated metal-looking facade with the AM/Mex flags painted on it (and I think Amare at one point). But if you really look close, and from behind, you'll notice it is an older brick street-frontage building - with some parapets or other potentially cool architectural details. I just want to go rip off the metal. There are so many like that around town, it'd make for a much more interesting/beautiful Phoenix if they could be restored.

^^^ Chase Tower looks like a scale model compared to OCPE's bulky profile. Oh well, it won't be the tallest building in AZ forever, and then we can all hate it in harmony.

You sure about that?

I quite like the Chase tower, aside from the big setback all around it. It would be nice if they added a base extending out to street level for retail and an expanded lobby.

I love the "cocktails" sign in the second picture for two reasons, one I love that type of sign and two I love cocktails! The only drawback to that sign (imo) is that it appears to be on a pole and not attached to the building.

Sorry. I missed that part. I was zoned out by the photos.

The Sheraton maybe ugly, put it provides a place for some great photography.

Here is another shot, this one from the 29th floor of the Sheraton.

You can just bearly see the Cityscape crane right between the Compass Room restaurant atop the Hyatt and the Phelps Dodge tower. With the Cityscape office tower being roughly the same height as Two Renaissance Square, that should give you an idea of how tall it will look.
Between OCPE, 44 Monroe, and the Cityscape office tower, this view is quite a bit different then it would have been just a couple years ago.
