If you're talking about the development directly across the street from the Target/Best Buy shopping center, it's this.

That's pretty nice infill. We need some of what's going up in the Westside and Hollywood in downtown.

Alright, which one of you is Neal Broverman?

Mixed-Use Fake-Out With Formosa South at the Lot Offices
Wednesday, December 26, 2012, by Neal Broverman

Curbed LA

Not far from the epicenter of LA construction on La Brea Avenue is an under-the-radar project rising near Formosa and Santa Monica Boulevard: the Formosa South at the Lot offices (this is the old United Artists studio that's been at the center of a preservation battle). Skyscraper Page tipster DistrictDirt finds that construction is progressing quickly on the five-story, 120,000 square foot building, with subterranean parking. Though it looks like a mixed-use apartment complex in Santa Monica, it's indeed just offices for The Lot movie studio, next door. "The building is the first phase of a larger scale master plan aimed at creating an integrated media, technology, and entertainment production campus on the historic movie studio site," according to architect Studio One Eleven.
The funny thing is, I have some enemies on Curbed that leave me nasty comments whenever I comment with my real name using the Facebook login. If only they knew Curbed was attributing posts to me.

And good riddance to that. It did not enhance the hood by any stretch of the imagination.

Somewhere else?

Anyway, here is a very awesome street improvement going on in Santa Monica that I was totally unaware of.

looks fantastic and its great for Santa Monica.

when i see videos like this, i really get angry at LA city officials. Why cant we get streets like this in Downtown where it would make 100% sense? And when there are proposals (MyFigueroa and Bringing back Broadway) it takes years and years for anything to happen.

That's it for now. Happy holidays guys!
When I first saw some motels/apartment buildings under construction, where they lay a concrete floor on the base of the 2nd floor, and tack on 3 floors of wood on top, it gave me a chill at thought of a fire breaking out on the top floor, the 4th floor.

Now, I see a building with 4 wooden floors tacked on! What next!!! 5,6,7 floors of wood????

Are we that short of concrete in this country where we must resort to that?

Being fearful of fire, from the gitgo, I wouldn't live on the 5th floor of one of these buildings if the rent were $100 a month!

Those from Latin America, where concrete reigns, would shake theirs heads in disbelief to see this!

I know we hardly discussed the Dodgers Stadium renovations in this thread but since it's considered a big part of LA, here's an update picture on the work that has been happening. There's more work being done than I expected there to be.

From the DodgersBeat Facebook page this morning.

I was willing to tolerate some form of conversation about wood construction as it started with a specific development, but as it spiraled off topic, and this is not a forum about wood construction vs. concrete construction, please move that discussion to another thread, or you will be taking a forced vacation from the forums.

Thank you,

Management

WOW lol the way I see it, it was just a harmless debate over building material, a small concern about the environment is all. Didn't think it was serious enough to have a harmless little post deleted, but what do I know ?? I guess I'm no specialist like you . . . oh and "forced vacation"? lol GOD forbid I anger the almighty Colemonkee

Add another one for La Brea.

http://la.curbed.com/uploads/Courtyard.jpg

Quote:
West Hollywood's be-ribboned affordable housing project, Courtyard at La Brea, is moving forward with a ceremonial "beam signing" to "celebrate ... construction" after a moment of uncertainty for the development (work actually started last year). The 32-unit building, designed by Patrick Tighe and John Mutlow, is intended to "provide housing for low- and very-low income residents, as well as people with disabilities and transition-age youth," according to a press release on West Hollywood Patch. It includes two buildings that "enclose a central landscaped interior courtyard, which is open to the south. The entrance to the building is also on the south side, which is surrounded by a sculpturally woven white contemporary exterior." Courtyard was supposed to be built with money from West Hollywood's redevelopment agency. But when California shut down all the redevelopment agencies across the state, they had to hand in their funding. In December, the state finance department rejected West Hollywood's request that the money for this project be returned, and the project was briefly put on hold. (It was once scheduled to break ground by the end of 2011.)

West Hollywood stepped up and offered to loan the city's Affordable Housing Trust Fund the required cash for the $14.8 million apartment building. The Courtyard should be open in the fall. This is yet another piece of the crazy apartmentification wave sweeping La Brea along the WeHo/LA border.
