I've always hoped for something along the lines of the Wilson Historic District in Dallas for those and other historic neighborhoods in downtown.

The Meadows Foundation purchased 22 acres of the neighborhood east of Downtown Dallas to preserve the Victorian structures and offer rent-free space for non-profits. Pretty cool use of historic designation for
actual preservation
with public benefit IMO.
Also, first-time poster, 9-year daily lurker since my 982 trips to UT campus. I'm from the Rattan Creek neighborhood and now live in University Park (Dallas) working on two masters degrees in music at the Meadows School of the Arts at SMU. Thank you all for providing such vibrant and informative discussion, and I look forward to chiming in now and then.
