Went to Otra Vez and Bar Marilou last night. Both great places to check out for the design and architecture ... really impressed with both places!

Mayor Cantrell wants the French Market to be like Seattle’s Pike Place

https://www.nola.com/politics/2019/0...ike-place.html

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell is in the early stages of laying plans to remake the iconic French Market, taking cues from Seattle’s Pike Place Market, widely admired as one of the top public markets in the United States.

How the mayor will achieve that is not yet clear. She recently sent a delegation to Seattle to meet with market and city officials, and the city is in the process of developing a request for proposal for a study on the French Market. Last fall, the mayor shook up the board of the French Market Corp., its governing body, after the resignation of board chairwoman Demetric Mercadel, who left for personal reasons.

The city could help a lot by developing its own huge parking lots and substation on Elysian Fields into parking garages and residential, to bring more locals. With the redevelopment of the Gov Nichols wharf into park, people would pay a lot to live closeby.

It would be great to see this be an actual market with produce and what not.

I really like what the mayor is attempting to do. I lived in NO when the Market changed, and locals began avoiding it.

A big issue will be transportation. Locals will need an easy way to access it while moving with and through the large tourist crowds.

I was interested in the article about train service between NO and Baton Rouge. Is there a new movement to actually get it accomplished, or was it mainly another idea someone is floating that won't go anywhere?

The density is great and is encouraging to see some building with some COLOR! That said, I'm concerned about the access and walkability of the neighborhood... the rendering makes it look kinda desolate. Hope they have an integrated transit plan.

I'm nervous about this because whenever a NOLA politician or planner or whatnot says "let's make [NOLA Landmark/Locale] into [non-NOLA thing]," there's some legitimate reasons to get nervous - especially when marketing to locals and natives. That said, I think the turn to providing produce and orienting to locals is a good thing!

Making sure the surrounding neighborhoods are affordable for us here though should be a complementary goal too.

Report: Movie theater inside Shops at Canal Place in downtown New Orleans to shut dow

Regal Cinemas' Canal Place movie theater in downtown New Orleans will close this week, according to a NOLA.com report.

The theater's last day will be Thursday.

“While we are sorry that Regal (Cinemas) will be leaving Canal Place, we recognize this as an opportunity to reimagine the third level and continue to focus on making our center the best destination for both our local customers and NOLA visitors,” Lisa Manzella, the general manager for the Shops at Canal Place, said in a statement to NOLA.com.

It's unclear what will take over the place in the three-story mall.

I think it turned out very nice. Lol at $1400 for a studio in Mid City though.

Not shocked to see Canal Place theaters closing. Quality of service and amenities really started going downhill after Regal took over. They should have also stuck to the arthouse movies they used to show. Broad theater has since taken over that niche for the city.

Again...totally petty, but still hilarious. Bad decision to move to a tiny convention center Collision Conference. Plus it's cold! Highs only in the 50's all week.

Entry denied even with tickets. Whoops!

For size of the convention center in Toronto...this picture says it all. See that white wall in the background...that's the other end of the building. That's it. No where else to expand. Such a stupid decision by the Collision team if they truly want to grow. The final shot in that tweet is from here last year in a very small part of a huge convention center (Al Gore speaking).

It looks like January here, but it's typical May weather for Toronto.

Yeah! Flying across the Atlantic at end of June and was really hoping to use it. Can't wait!

Noticed this morning that a few service trucks were in the parking lot of the future Virgin hotel, marking it and labeling things. I asked if they were prepping the site for the hotel construction, but those guys said they don't know anything
