That first shot is a great pic! Everything looks mammoth like.

Is it me or does the WFC across the street need some work. The blue entrance framing in the front looks retarded, and the green bronze roof on top of the complex looks so unmaintained you would think it's over 100 hundred yrs old.

Those don't really bother me as much as the facade changes after the second setback of each tower. In fact, I quite like the copper, and I especially like that they (although perhaps clumsily) tied together the WTC site with the river via public space (the large atrium and retail space) rather than closing it off to just office tenants.

They fixed and upgraded it alot after 9/11. I still would not be surprised if they decided to reclad it to bring it up to date
With the glassy NWTC, sure hope not. But that's for another thread.

So you guys out there, What exactly is the "Wedge of light"? It's in all the plans, up the road between 2NWTC and the hub, and it seems very important as it seems to dictate 2wtcs shape. Just wondering.

That's not really an "entrance", and the "aged" look is intentional.

Just an element of Daniel Libeskind's master plan for the site.

Have I been asleep? What's all that structure in the old WTC 1 & 2 pit that seems to have popped up in the last two days? A third of the area looks like it's covered by some sort of roof.

Yeah, the memorial has been coming together relatively quickly...

Slightly unrelated to WTC1, but I couldn't help but notice that it is now possible to see the outline of the northern memorial pool.

Memorial on 1/4/09

It has been for some time now, but you will also see in that first pic that the "survivors stairs" has been put into position..

It's nice to see things moving along! Hopefully whenever I'm in NYC I'll be able to check out the progress myself

I helped out with communications in the early days of that time. It still seems surreal. It will mean much to me to stand in that memorial one day and look up at the tower this thread is about. The end of a long dream. Despite the all knowing critics disdain of the two towers, they were my favorites ever since I lived on Governor's Island and saw them every day. I'm very much looking forward to their replacements, and hoping to stare up at them and say "Yep. They'll do"

Is it symbolic or just an element?

It's great, and kinds sad, to see the outlines of the waterfalls.

Irrelevant is probably the better word.

I really like the memorial. It's going to be a very soothing place when it's finished.
