Sweet! Bamboo grows like crazy so it should take no time at all to fill out. It will also be cool to see those angled roofs of the podium covered in vegetation.

I drove by on Georgia last evening and those bamboo plants are all really big. Much bigger than I expected.

Not a stupid question at all, but no I do not think that will be conference space as I believe that is where the grocery store will be going. Although I'm not entirely sure what triangular structure you are talking about as they are both kind of in the NW corner.

^Urban Fare will take up the entire ground floor, with the VAG on the second level.

As I recall, the original plan was for separate restaurants in those two spaces(?) On the one hand, restaurants would’ve been nice compared to a blank wall on both Alberni and Georgia, but as has been alluded to in this thread, the plans for the gallery could make this one look pretty cool when all is said and done. (as long as they don’t do the blinking lights concept like that one VAG exhibit had).

Here is the description from the City’s report (again):

The design of the Public Art Site was developed in concert with the Vancouver Art Gallery. It is equipped with special paving, a projector, a screen, anchor ties, and it has the capacity to be flooded. The passageway between Georgia and Alberni, and a landscaped passageway up to a second-level roof garden, provide additional exhibition areas. Public access to these areas is secured by statutory right-of-way which together, provide a variety of spaces to exhibit artworks that animate the surrounding urban context and explore contemporary art issues.

It's hard to tell from the photo, is all that green bamboo, if so, it's gonna be pretty impressive once it starts to fill out.

Anyone notice the big metal stairs they've put in on the georgia side, right at the north west corner, going up to the second level of the podium? Its kind of a weird look, very industrial looking. It'll be interesting to see how it all comes together.

I thought that the exhibit spaces were all outdoors and that the two pavillions up top were for restaurants.

I work across the street. Those are actually stairs going up the middle of the bamboo, although right now they're just metal construction stairs - I'm guessing both the Georgia and the Alberni stairs will be replaced by something more permanent before opening.

That’s what I thought as well. Originally the plan was for four restaurants: Ki Restaurant and a hotel bar/lounge in the tower, and two restaurants in those two 2nd floor spaces (seen below on the left). Did this change? With the frosted glass, they seem like odd spaces.

That crane up there kills everything. To bad the building isn't thick enough to have one of these babies http://lh4.ggpht.com/_mOkUAtcHTiQ/SH...w/IMG_2783.JPG

The crane is 'retractrable', so it doesn't ruin anything... and yes your link doesn't work.

Retractable?? Sure doesn't look like it has gone anywhere yet. Unless it lowers into the mechanical roof then we will always see this thing. Unless of course something raises to hide it. Please will this thing disapear!! or will someone shed some light on how they are going to do it?
