Next up, one of the worlds most livable cities, and the City of Angels (which quite frankly is just ridiculously big)

Vancouver, BC
City Population: 578,041
Metro Population: 2,443,000

I don't understand. Isn't that area south of Richmond across the river also urban? And I'm also guessing that low density suburban neighborhoods don't qualify either?

great maps btw. please to Anchorage, Alaska

Nope that area south of Richmond is just farms - check G.E. With regard to low density - I guess it depends on how low, and where it is. Generally I will include low density development (within reason) in my maps where possible.

Anchorage - indeed, stay tuned.

I've had some good response to the yellow 350.0km zoom maps and would be happy to do some more, bearing in mind only with cities which I've posted their primary maps. So please feel free to request a comparison any 2 maps you've seen in this thread so far!

I know there's been a lot of city requests also, I have a large list now. I will get to them in time

In the mean time, up next I have for you Australia's largest gleaming metropolis, and perhaps the ultimate example of suburban sprawl

Sydney, Australia
Metro Population: 4,575,532

Atlanta, GA
City Population: 420,003
Metro Population: 5,268,860

These are cool! Keep it up. Any chance you're going to do Austin and San Antonio?

My God...just stumbled upon this thread for the first time.

INCREDIBLE, INCREDIBLE work man...thanks so much for sharing these with all of us.

On another note...seeing some of these American maps is a bit embarrassing.

I didn't realize Atlanta was so lopsided in favor of the north suburbs. Thanks for these maps as always Spotila, and a tip of the cap for the Pearl River Delta goliath.

It is, isn't it. Hey Spotila, see how many European and Canadian cities you can fit inside Atlanta. I'm guessing 3 or 4 with a 10 fold in population.

...with the caveat that said cities have similar populations as Atlanta's metro, of course.

That's not a bad idea. I'll keep that in mind for the near future

Next, a recreated Greater Los Angeles Area, which was removed earlier due to an automatic resizing issue with the image host.

Los Angeles, CA
City Population: 3,792,621
Metro Population: 17,786,419 (CSA, includes Long Beach, Riverside)

Thanks. "Roughly" the same. While Atlanta has a well-deserved reputation for absurd sprawl, the reality is that it's about the same as most other large southern metros, as that side by side comparison shows.

Really just amazing work! Can't stress that enough, especially the Pearl Delta map.

Rally looking forward to the Toronto/Golden Horseshoe map. Also Montreal would be great to see.

When you look at it on a map, Atlanta appears extremely large. However, after living in the area, it seems smaller. The north-side is the address most people want and most of jobs are on this side. It's also the most beautiful side, with mountains, a river and lakes. Many of the suburban towns are also historic and beautiful.

As requested multiple times, a special surprise, up next we have the core of Canada's economy

Golden Horseshoe, ON
Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area Population: 6,539,700
Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo Population: 534,900
St Catherines-Niagara CMA Population: 390,317
Golden Horseshoe Population: ~8,500,000
Please let me know if these statistics are outdated or incorrect. For simplicity purposes I am including Barrie in the total population

just to clarify - the 4.07 million (Metropolitan) figure doesn't include the developed areas of Bacchus Marsh, Geelong or the Bellarine Peninsula (Torquay (where Bell's Beach is), Ocean Grove and St Leonards etc) - they're outside of the count - same with Cowes on Phillip Island.

Everywhere from Blairgowrie near the tip of the Mornington Peninsula right around the eastern and northern edges of Port Phillip to Melton and Sunbury exurbia = Melbourne metro.

See map here: http://www.ausstats.abs.gov.au/ausst...?opendocument# ("SD" - Statistical divisions of Melbourne/Sydney/Brisbane/Adelaide/Perth etc = the metropolitan areas/populations)
