The Albany, a proposed mixed-use hotel development near the Los Angeles Convention Center, is on pace to break ground in 2022, according to an initial study published last week by the Planning Department.

Bezos now lives in the LA area, I wonder if he's going to build a massive tower downtown that he can see from his estate? Just a thought.

Did he do this in Seattle? Why would Bezos suddenly become a real estate developer and build a skyscraper in Downtown Los Angeles just because he has a house here? He has houses all over the country.

From what I read he now has 3 houses in LA (technically BH), one 29,000 sqft house in Seattle, a ranch in Texas and a house in DC. With the amount of LA properties (including his most expensive $165M one), he seems pretty committed to LA. Include Amazon Studios and IMDb headquartered here (technically Culver City), he has a lot of stake in LA.

With that said, I don't think he'll be building anything in downtown or anywhere since Amazon has leased all their LA buildings.

Look at the dates on this permit.....over 3 months to receive approval to tear down a little food stand in a very visible part of dtla? Although not as visible as where the olympia proj would go up, still very visible to ppl visiting grand central mkt and angel's flight.

Over 3 months? Really, LA officials?

The delays on this project are the result of decisions made by the developer and negotiations with third parties. The City hasn't been the issue - they've actually been quite accommodating.

It's just a pie in the sky idea of mine since LA has yet to build a super-tall, Bezos would be the person to do it, even if it's a snowball's chance (in LA).

That would be cool... and LA has 2 super-talls already

I'd consider Wilshire and US Bank tall skyscrapers, but a building where its top floor is over 1,300 ft would be my definition of super-tall, .

Interesting nugget regarding line routes post-Regional Connector completion in 2022:

Quote:
Metro planners have long proposed that the L Line’s southeastern leg be affixed to the E Line, creating a continuous train route between Santa Monica and East Los Angeles. The remainder of the L Line would then be linked to the A Line, making possible a one-seat ride between Azusa and Long Beach.

However, at a committee meeting in January, senior executive officer Conan Cheung told members of the agency’s Board of Directors that Metro is also studying the possibility of connecting the A Line to the L Line’s lower segment, creating a Long Beach-to-East Los Angeles rail line. The northern part of the L Line would then link up to the E Line, allowing for continuous trips between Azusa and Santa Monica.

Moderator Note: I deleted a bunch of posts debating the definition of a supertall. You are welcome to debate that anywhere but in this thread, which is reserved for Downtown Los Angeles development. Anyone engaging further in that debate here will be suspended. Thank you!

Message a mod. I've brought this up several times but no one seems to listen.

I'll update it when I have the time, but am finding that harder and harder to come by these days.

$8.2 million sure is a lot for a restaurant, would likely have to be mixed use.

I'm more curious as to what Gilmore plans to do with the Hellman Building that wraps this one. Right now I believe they are just lofts.

How fitting if it was turned into a homeless shelter.

Maybe a mini version of Lisbon's Time Out Market on the ground floor and event/entertainment space on the 2nd floor?
