i titally like it too!

but seriously, if you wanna know what the pizza experience in milwaukee felt like during the nixon adminsitration, you gotta check this place out, they haven't changed a damn thing (other than upping their beer game a bit, but what old school place hasn't these days?).

Milwaukee has a great urban layout. If Chicago ever got too expensive to move to, this is the next best thing.

Ha! I didn't catch the "titally"... I'm not editing it, and I think I might start using it when the situation calls for it from now on.

I'm heading to Milwaukee for the first time this Spring... thanks, I'm titally checking Barbiere's out.

when in the spring?

if it's late spring, then i HIGHLY recommend renting a kayak and going for a paddle on the milwaukee river. it's one of the coolest ways to experience milwaukee (or really any city with a narrow urban canyon river system).

my wife and i came dangerously close to making such a move, but we ultimately decided to compromise on a couple things and stay put in chicago.

but milwaukee was really tempting for its "you can have it all" allure.

i'm hopelessly chicagoan.

to the bone.

Late April. Might be chilly or it could be perfect, but kayaking is right up my alley.

these guys haven't posted their 2018 schedule yet, but they might be open in late april (weather permitting).

https://milwaukeekayak.com/

but if they're open, do it! you won't regret it. the rivers of milwaukee are eminently kayakable and the city interacts with its waterways in a really intimate and urban way.

Is it worth a trip from Chicagoland?

And does it matter which of the two locations you go to?

should you make a special trip just for the pizza? probably not, as there's loads of great pizza in chicago.

but should you go there the next time you're in milwaukee and want some old school pizza? hell yes!

i've only ever been to the original location on the west side of milwaukee.

that's the one pictured above that feels like the '70s on the inside.

go to that one.

Many parts of Milwaukee are already booming, whoever said Milwaukee lacks vibrant amenity districts is insane:

Brady Street Festival:

Milwaukee Journal-Sentinal

Brady Street Art Walk (like Chicago, multiple annual street festivals are a must for any respectable neighborhood):

bradystreet.org

Milwaukee Bucks Arena and Entertainment District (U/C), note how it's actually a district, like 5 SQ blocks, there are two other arenas directly across the street not including the old Bradley Center that you see above:

The Park East Freeway (Milwaukee is one of the few cities to have stopped freeway construction, then torn out the remainder of the freeway that was built, and then have totally filled in the vacant land again with a dense, urban, area:

preservenet.com

Another shot of the arena development and the Moderne Highrise both built on land in the old freeway corridor:

onmiwaukee.com

parkeastmke.com

Before:

wisconsinhighways.org

Third Ward Neighborhood:

travelingwithsweeney.com

Bayview:

Beerline/Brewer's Hill Riverwalk:

The above areas are all like 1 mile or more away from each other, spread all over Milwaukee's downtown.

Many other parts of Milwaukee are just waiting for the redevelopment to arrive:

Nice. When I think of a real old school neighbourhood pizza place in Toronto, this place comes to mind. https://goo.gl/maps/mFn8n7j3qb42

nice, compelling shots of Milwaukee.

Gives Jacksonville a run for its money.
