Well, will you look at this. Looks like Culdesac got a loan and the project is alive.

It's not lack of patience, this is an anomaly. They spent wayyy too long in the entitlements phase.

Imagine being paid to do this despite as if it's the state's most pressing law enforcement need.

Madness.

I don’t feel bad for ASU in this case still. Especially when they bitched about the towers that were suppose to go in the Catholic Church parking lot by claiming they were too tall & then a couple years later went on to build Mirabella.

I’m also very anti-corporate welfare at this point. We’re brainwashed that we should never receive welfare or handouts, but corporations do all the time... just in a different way. Kinda communistic. While it would be nice to see Omni in that location, Tempe has no shortage of demand. So if it’s cancelled, oh well.

Here! Here! Although I think a Tower Records would be a better use for that corner!

Decades ago, there was a Tower Records on the southeast corner of Mill & University, near the old Stabler's IGA.

Technically the design review documents listed the office building as Phase 1, restoration of the Hayden House as Phase 2, and the hotel as Phase 3. But yes, the hotel was supposed to be a subsequent phase.

Pier 202

https://blog.cityelectricsupply.com/...r-development/

Found this article on the Pier development from July 2020. Says the two towers are going to be 30 stories which will be the "tallest structure in tempe". I know the plan review says 24 stories so maybe they are mistaken or the developer went back to the city for more height/density to add more units to get the deal to pencil? Either way this article has some good details on the development.
